The family chose Luma for our holiday dinner this year. Twelve of us met here on Valentine’s Day and had a wonderful time. We generally ordered from a special fixed price menu and the food was excellent. I had the scallops and pasta but most of us had the filets. All were impressed! Our server, Nicole was extremely personable and helpful! We enjoyed the entire evening immensely!

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner here during Restaurant Week. The menu was extensive & showed off the seafood offerings. I chose salmon & hubby had shrimp. Dessert was delectable- don’t skip the cheesecake! Phenomenal. The service was outstanding. Our server, Ian was attentive, helpful, personable & professional. Definitely a great place to dine week nights or special occasions!

I cannot thank the staff of Luma more for saving our night out with friends. After waiting 2.5 hours at another restaurant for dinner (yes they were slammed) and they gave our table to another party we called Luma 15 minutes before closing and they told us they had a table for us. Management awesome. Service even better. Food amazing. We will go back in a heart beat to have a proper dining experience. Shout out to our server Stevie.

Luma was quite the surprise package for me, and on my lunch visit with girlfriends, totally exceeded expectations! With their cute little patio, fun cocktails and veggie options, it checked all my boxes and definitely didn’t disappoint. We decided to order a drink at the bar while waiting for a table outside. On the friendly bartender’s recommendation, I went with the ‘Mango’ which was delicious! My next drink was the ‘Grapefruit’ which was less sweet and even better than the first. The food too hit all the right spots! Don’t miss the grilled cheese dippers – tiny bite sized grilled cheese with a yummy delicious tomato bisque dip – What a brilliant idea! Like sharing warm comfort with every bite! I also enjoyed the zucchini straws but the wild mushroom ravioli was truly just perfect! Service too was on point. Luma is most certainly on my list of ‘highly recommended’ restaurants in the south hills!

July 2024 ==> We had a disappointing experience compared to our last time, six years ago. The place has not changed, but the quality of the staff and food certainly has, and to the negative side. Four of us came out to dinner. We sat down and perused the menu. Just as we sat down, one of us had to take a call. He went outside so as not to disturb the rest of the people in the place. The waiter came to tell us the specials. We asked him to wait for our last member, who was on his way back in. However, he chose to walk away after telling us he’ll be back in 20 seconds. We watched as he wandered around the restaurant and spoke with five or six other tables before coming back to our table 15 minutes later. He told us the special and we ordered an appetizer. It was the Crispy Buffalo Cauliflower which we thought was OK. It was just as advertised with the standard Red Hot wing sauce coating the dried cauliflower florets.

When we ordered the main dishes, we asked our waiter whether he was comfortable pairing wines? He said he was, but then recommended a wildly inappropriate wine for the dishes we told him we were ordering. Needless to say, we did not order the wine he recommended.

The next negative surprise was the food itself. As it turned out, three of us ordered the stacked panko chicken dish. When they came, all three were different from each other! One was good, it was hot, and it had a good amount of sauce on the chicken and the couscous as well as mushroom chunks. That’s the one I have a picture of. The second one was cold, had no mushrooms, but was sauced properly. The third one had no couscous and was swimming is so much of the sauce that it looked like a soup. We sent that one back – when it came back, it was lukewarm chicken served on a bed of couscous with absolutely no sauce at all! How is it possible to have four or the same dish come out of the same kitchen during the same service in four different ways? This lack of consistency is a really bad sign.

The other dish we got was the Baramundi. It was served on a bed of Basmati rice that was tasteless. It was dry, and then some butter was mixed in to try and cover up that problem. Really, making rice properly is not that difficult!

By the way, after we gave our orders, we never saw our waiter again. We were served by several female waitresses and someone who appeared to be a lead or manager. The male waiter was there, he was just wondering around and talking with other tables.

Spending $50 per person for these kinds of experiences? No, just no.

Between the food and the service problems, I am downgrading my rating from a five star rating to a two-star rating.

Previous Visits ==> Quiet place with very good food. Menu has a little bit of everything and all is well prepared. It’s off the beaten path and has an interesting light arrangement that changes colors all the time but subtly. Good wine list to boot

Second visit showed an updated menu with the same ambience and quality.

Went for restaurant week and enjoyed a zucchini appetizer with cheese and sauce, the short run, and a sponge cake. Overall the food was quite good and they had a nice wine selection. The decor was quite odd – a mix of modern and Asian? And my main complaint is the service was quite slow- 1.5 hours for dinner and we got there when there were only two other parties. I’d recommend trying it but by no means my favorite.

Came for restaurant week and Luma did not disappoint! Great service and even got us in without a reservation, despite it being busy. We loved the wine and cocktail selection, as well as the food. We sat at the bar and never had an empty glass, thanks to the bartender, Sadie. My only disappointment is not coming here sooner

Chef Flamm does an amazing job balancing Simplicity & Quality with robust but amazing flavors. My wife & I recently made reservations for Dinner at Luma. Service was outstanding and the food was fantastic. I had the Filet over Penne with Alfredo. My wife enjoyed the Wild Mushroom Ravioli. Per usual, we had to take something home for lunch the next day, so we ordered Short Rib over Penne to go. For desert we had the Chocolate Saucy (Brownie with Ice Cream and Cream) The Brownie tasted like they literally baked it in the oven made to order. Fantastic.

We already had the short rib for lunch today, also amazing, even re-heated. We love the relaxed quant yet elegant atmosphere. The food keeps us coming back. To many restaurants try to overdo their menu items to be different, straying away from quality and simplicity. I would rather have high quality yet simple any day of the week and Chef Flamm at Luma most certainly delivers. We will be back.

The restaurant has a simple, European, French flair to the atmosphere. The wine list is excellent. The menu offers amazing food. Our baked brie, the bread, the lamb shank, etc was absolutely to die for! Prices are reasonable, and the portions are nicely done. You can tell everything is from scratch. A gem of a restaurant in Castle Shannon/Mt. Lebanon border.

Nice atmosphere, fantastic food, and great service from Diego! Sticky toffee pudding is a must have. One of the few pricier restaurants I can confidently say is well worth the cost.
