The adult buffet price is $14.49, which felt fair for the quality and selection. Children are priced around $8–$9, and seniors receive a $2 discount on the adult price, making this a solid option for families and older guests.
Food quality stood out more than expected for a buffet. The baked chicken legs were cooked properly, crunchy on the outside and juicy inside, with light caramelization on the skin. Bourbon chicken was well seasoned and maintained the familiar flavor profile it is known for. Rice was evenly cooked, soft without being mushy, and had a light buttery flavor.
Fish was cooked correctly with a moist interior and light browning, and vegetables such as boiled cabbage and carrots were tender and evenly seasoned with oil. Food rotation was frequent, and it was noticeable that trays were being refreshed regularly rather than left sitting.
The taco bar was clean and easy to access. Taco shells were intact, the seasoned beef was not overpowering, and the nacho-style cheese sauce was smooth and well blended. The salad bar was well stocked with fresh greens and toppings. Salad bar chicken was slightly overcooked and underseasoned, but still acceptable. Cucumbers were freshly cut, though slightly aged, while pickles were crisp and properly brined.
Comfort foods were generally strong. Meatloaf was well balanced with good texture and flavor. Mac and cheese had good cheese flavor, though slightly clumped from delayed mixing. Lasagna was very cheesy, though some pasta layers were slightly undercooked. Chicken and dumplings were a highlight, well seasoned with tender chicken and good dumpling texture, and appeared largely untouched by other guests.
Cold items like macaroni salad were refreshing and properly chilled, while potato salad showed signs of sitting longer, with mixed temperatures. Desserts were fresh, including a soft peanut butter cookie with chocolate frosting.
Service was attentive and friendly, with the server checking in regularly and being helpful throughout the visit. The only drawback was restroom cleanliness, with one stall unavailable at the time.
Overall: good food quality, attentive service, frequent food rotation, and fair pricing. A strong value buffet experience and one I would return to.
Food:
-The Salad Bar looks good,
-The Entry foods are dry and old
-Desert Bar is dry, reused, and preorder desserts. Dessert look sad
-Ice cream machine looks scary/gross and the ice cream looks and tastes wrong.
Service:
– one service person for left and right wing
– staff seem friendly
– staff in kitchen look sad.
Atmosphere:
– sad and outdated, the state of “Michigan” Golden Corral puts this place to shame.
– just go to “Chuck A Rama” from this place up the road.
We originally went because I just wanted a piece of fried chicken. Unfortunately when I cut into my fried chicken breast, it was bloody and not thoroughly cooked through. I gave it to the server to take to management. No one ever came back and acknowledged or apologized for serving almost raw chicken. Not the manager or our server. I wasn’t expecting a comp or freebie, just an acknowledgment that the chicken situation was being corrected. The worst part was that they DIDN’T even pull the tray of undercooked chicken from the line. Nor did they cook more chicken to the proper temperature and let me know I was safe to go grab another piece.
The other items I chose were either dried out or mostly inedible so I paid $20 for ONE dinner roll, some baked beans and a soda because the other food was so bad. My dining companion had a similar opinion about their experience.
Another thing I noticed which is not only lazy but dangerous to those with food allergies is that they didn’t have the dishes properly labeled. The sneeze guard had multiple food labels placed haphazardly along the glass that didn’t correlate at all with the what was underneath the label in most instances. You literally had no idea what you were choosing in some areas.
We’ve eaten at GC on occasion over the last 20 years and used to enjoy it. Service and food were always on point for a small town buffet. This location has gone so far downhill from what it used to be it’s alarming. If the chicken was undercooked and not corrected when brought to management’s attention, what else are customers consuming that isn’t cooked or handled properly?
I believe, based on the way my chicken situation was handled, a lack of proper signage above food items, and food that appeared to be left out far too long for human consumption that it is UNSAFE to eat here, especially for small children, the elderly or immunocompromised patrons.
