Wow, I can’t believe I just stumbled upon this **off-the-beaten-path gem** in Fort Worth—The Flying Fish on Montgomery Street! It’s tucked away with that cozy, lakeside fishing shack vibe—walls covered in fun fishing decor, Billy Bass singing on the walls, and a super relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere that feels like a little escape from the usual spots.
I went for dinner and oh my gosh, the **fresh catfish** was out of this world—perfectly crispy on the outside, flaky and tender inside, no greasy aftermath at all! Paired it with the **redfish** (grilled to perfection with just the right seasoning), and it was absolute heaven. The **hush puppies**? Little golden balls of joy—crispy exterior, soft and corny inside, seriously addictive. And the **coleslaw** was the ideal cool, crunchy side with a tangy kick that balanced everything out.
Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the whole experience just blew me away. If you’re craving killer seafood without the fuss, this place is a total **hidden treasure**—run, don’t walk!

Walking into the restaurant, you feel like you are at a seafood restaurant on the coast. Very cute decor. Once you are in the restaurant, you have to figure out on your own where to sit and where to order. You have to go through the patio, first dining room and into the main dining room to find the person taking orders at the counter. Definitely need more signage to let people know that you order as the counter and that the line begins on the right side. We looked like a hot mess trying to figure out their system.
The person taking our order had a personality of a wet noodle. We even told him it was our first time here and he gave us no recommendations or suggestions as we attempted to navigate their menu. He didn’t even tell us where to find the drink glasses until after we paid and realized we never received our drinks.
We were a party of five and spent right at $100. I think the price was fair for all that we ordered.
Food highlights: the alligator sausage queso, the crawfish chowder, the hushpuppies and the cocktail sauce were all great and a definite repeat.
Food misses: anything fried!!! The fried catfish was thin and the batter has zero seasoning. The fried shrimp were butterflied, making them thin, and all you could taste was the bland batter. It would have been better to leave them plump so that you could actually taste the shrimp. The tarter sauce tasted like it came out of a big bucket from the back of a Sysco’s truck. Not homemade at all.
We were really excited to try the Flying Fish, I think we just missed on what we ordered.

AMAZING food for great price!! Came here with a friend and we signed up for the rewards program and got a good deal. We got fried fish, fried shrimp, fries, oysters, onion rings, lobster rolls and hush puppies. Everything was amazing! I would like to try their margaritas next! This place is great if you’re trying to take the family out to eat on a budget. The staff is friendly and has great recommendations. I will be back.

Always love going here. Order at the counter and are given a buzzer that alerts when you’re to go collect your meal. You really can’t go wrong no matter what you order. They have a grub club that sends out monthly coupons for a bogo dinner. Margaritas are good, nice selection of beer. It’s been here like 30 yrs so some of the booths are worn and a little saggy but the atmosphere is nice and there’s a large patio that’s nice when it’s not summer.

The parking situation is always a mess but there’s really not much they can do about it. The food isn’t bad, but it’s not the greatest either. The atmosphere is always great here. Compared to other spots nearby, they hold up pretty well overall. That said, some dishes miss the mark and are overpriced. The crawfish aren’t purged, every tail still had the vein intact, cleaning them is a basic step that really makes a difference, so that was disappointing. Oysters are hit or miss, I’ve had them fresh and delicious, but also muddy, fishy and off tasting at times. Hush puppies are too dry for my taste and there’s nothing special about their tartar sauce to make up for it. Margaritas aren’t great either sadly. I appreciate their beer selection, although they might want to stick with beer or upgrade their setup. The catfish varies, sometimes it’s okay, other times it’s thin and overcooked. Seasoning on the fried fish could be stronger overall. On the bright side, the gumbo, caddo, and jambalaya are always solid, and the lobster bisque is excellent.

Great food. Very good draft beer, according to my brother. Hush puppies where good. Catfish very good. And the fried pickles where a great value. Hard to find parking. If you are going with friends, better take one car or get it to go.

I eat here once or twice a month. I love a counter order, seat yourself joint. I’ve seen the same people working there for years and they have always been nice.
I try to not always get the shrimp/cat combo, but I like that the shrimp are butterflied and cleaned. The Caddo is another favorite of mine. The gumbo and grits are also tasty but the quantity of shrimp has been inconsistent. Last but not least, I really love the frozen ritas.
