I really liked Gates Bar-B-Q! The sandwich was rich, smoky, and full of flavor — you definitely get your money’s worth. The portions are big, and you leave feeling totally full of BBQ!
The staff were friendly and quick even though there was a long line, so be prepared for that The smell of BBQ hits you the moment you walk in — it’s hard to resist!
I’m giving 4 stars only because the place could be a bit cleaner, but overall it’s a great BBQ spot with amazing food and a true Kansas City vibe. I’ll definitely come back!

It truly is the best BBQ in KC. Not only is the food delicious, but the atmosphere of the restaurant is a warm feeling like having dinner at Mom’s house. You can feel and see the history of the restaurant. This location near leawood has the sweetest hostess who was so kind and helpful. We loved chatting with her, and she made sure we had everything we needed. Like I said, it was like having dinner with Mom.

Got to say I try an eat at a different BBQ place in Kansas city Gates was actually good but the experience and atmosphere was not what I expected. While it was good food and the beans and brisket were amazing, the service was kind of weird. The lady at the front just screamed at you and made you feel like you were in the military and don’t get out of line. I don’t know I can’t say I would try it again, but maybe not this location.

I was excited to try the burnt end fries and they were terrible. The fries were soggy from the packaging. It was barely any sauce or meat and the meat that was on there was super fatty. Definitely not worth the price

Best BBQ beef sandwich in the city of BBQ restaurants. Sauce is second to none. It won’t happen, but it would be great to modernize their ordering platform. The cooks are constantly being yelled orders. How are they supposed to remember these orders? Somehow, they generally get it right. The ladies taking the orders are abrupt but I guess, this is their culture. Still love the food however.

This was without a doubt the worst barbecue we have had the brisket was so tough we could not eat it. The rib was tasteless and it also was tough and the sausage was dry. The french fries were acceptable. We had a sandwich, two ribs and sausage and Pepsi and it was over $45. We will never ever go back to Gates

Got the double-decker combo, beef and turkey and it was absolutely delicious. Gates is absolutely classic Kansas City barbecue. Great sauce, consistent meat.

Me and my girlfriend ended up going last night to get dinner. I got a wing pack and long cut ribs because they were out of short ribs. When I say the chicken was over seasoned and salty. The (4)wings was so small to be charging over $13.00 whatever and with fries is not it. Whoever cooked the wings got the tar from the grill and then baked them (NO GOOD). The ribs she didn’t even finish them because most of the ribs was fat. I don’t KNOW what it is but this location is not it! 2/10 and that’s only because customer service was good and the wait was under 7 minutes.

My daughter placed a delivery order February 6, 4:06 pm, a half chicken baked beans and potato salad. Just know the only thing fresh was the potatoe salad. I don’t even know if they used their own sauce. Smh. Thtdb!
