The French onion soup was the highlight for me, absolutely delicious and full of flavour. Great food, lovely ambience, and always a place we enjoy coming back to.
And I have to say I was hugely impressed.
Whilst they weren’t able to accommodate me in the dining area due to how busy they were (I hadn’t pre-booked), eating at the bar didn’t bother me at all. And in any case, to be that busy on a rainy cold February Monday lunchtime was a great sign – clearly they are doing something right.
And so it proved.
All the food was very fresh and tasty.
The fish was perfectly cooked, the calamari surprisingly delicious (with the sweet chilli carrot addition making it pleasantly less dry than you would get elsewhere) and the side of spinach was deliciously creamy.
Due to it being a set menu offer, I thought £19 starter and main was outstanding value for money!
Will look forward to returning soon.
For dessert, we decided to share The Ivy Classic Shepherd’s Pie Dessert, which was absolutely delicious.
The restaurant itself is stunning and sophisticated, with live jazz creating a beautifully fancy atmosphere.
The service was equally excellent. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive, but honestly, that applies to the whole staff. Everyone was helpful and efficient.
We had an amazing experience!
We went in with fairly modest expectations, as The Ivy tends to receive mixed reviews. However, after that initial hiccup, the experience improved significantly and, in fact, turned out to be very good.
The food was excellent from start to finish. The starters were well prepared and enjoyable, and the main courses followed at the same strong level — well executed, flavourful, and satisfying throughout. Nothing felt rushed or careless once the meal was underway.
The dining room itself is beautiful, with a very pleasant and lively atmosphere. It’s an easy place to feel comfortable, and the overall ambiance is one of the restaurant’s real strengths.
In the end, the pricing felt entirely appropriate for what was delivered. Taking everything into account, it turned into a very nice experience overall — one that clearly exceeded our initial expectations after a slightly bumpy start.
The service was impeccable. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly, despite the restaurant being quite busy. I didn’t catch the server’s name (he was wearing a dark, almost black suit, not green), however he was so attentive without being intrusive. Every request was handled with grace and genuine hospitality.
We opted for the 2 course heritage menu which offered a balanced yet delicious variety of dishes. Perfect portions, bursting with flavours! Couldn’t ask for more.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a memorable meal in a beautiful setting!
The roasted scallops were beautifully cooked with rich flavours and a touch of luxury. The rib-eye was tender, full of depth, and perfectly charred. The 1917 fish and chips were classic, crisp, and comforting.
Overall, The Ivy Restaurant is not just a meal, but a celebration of quality ingredients, skilled cooking, and timeless elegance. Highly recommended.
We were warmly welcomed, and the staffs were nice, and attentive.
The ambiance/atmosphere was nice, with live music, warm lighting, and good interior design, so comfortable.
Toilets for customers are available.
Service: Our waitress was fantastic — bubbly, engaging, and full of great wine and cocktail recommendations. We ended up chatting about personal things for far longer than usual, which really made us feel at home.
Food & Drinks: I went for the burger, and I can honestly say it’s probably the best burger I’ve ever eaten. The radish relish that came with it was perfect. My only surprise was the £7 charge for one slice of cheese and a rasher of bacon, which seemed a bit excessive, although it did enhance the flavour.
To go with the burger, I had an Amaretto sour mocktail — a rare find across cocktail bars — and it was absolutely beautiful. The interiors were cozy, and there was a great buzz throughout the venue.
Highly recommend for excellent food, cocktails, and top-notch service!
