Casa Real Poblana is located in the historic colonial city of Puebla, about an hour drive from Mexico city. During the French-Mexican War (1861-1867), an outnumbered Mexican army defeated a powerful invading French force at Puebla. Our tour guide brought us to this historic (!!) restaurant with good colonial interiors. My expectation was high as our guide described it to be the original home of ‘Mole Poblano’, local dishes with distinct flavours. We had our buffet lunch there. However, though the spread was little different, but the taste was average…. nothing more than ordinary. Seemed like it was neither authentic nor good enough to transmit the essence of Puebla. The waiters were very courteous, and attentive though…

The food is pricey. I paid 265 pesos per person, drinks extra and they take their 10 percent tip. The place is beautiful and staff are very nice but the food was not worth $100 dollars. The mole was decent but they didn’t have much other options. No fruits whatsoever and very little tasteless deserts. I was not impressed by food option and huge bill.

They offer buffet everyday all day. The restaurant itself is beautiful for it’s colonial architecture and the service is great as usual here in Puebla.
From the buffet the chilaquiles, beans and papas con rajas were tasty as well as the tlacoyos (a Poblano snack). The coffee needs attention as is a bit water down.
Overall a quite place to eat breakfast in a colonial tranquil ambiance.

The food is very tasty and inexpensive. One caveat: if you are not used to eating chile poblano, you should take into consideration that you might not be able to stomach it!

Worst food ever, greasy chile en nogada, dry chicken and beef, $60 for a coke . There are way better places to eat.

We enjoyed a delightful breakfast experience at casa real. The service was incredibly accommodating; our original seating was hot, but our lovely waitress moved us to a more comfortable area. We savored fresh scrambled eggs, fruits, freshly made tortillas, and juice. The ambiance was stunning, reminiscent of Puebla postcards, with beautiful Talavera tiles and an open balcony.

Food was terrible, buffet had no good options until we just about left. Waiter saw our table only 1. Took forever to bring salt. Told us we had to pay cash but shortly after the table next to us was able to pay with cash. When we told the waiter who had no name tag, he stated they had been having trouble with the terminal even though that’s not what he had told us earlier.
