I came here with my friends and got a single Narragansett which was supposed to be 4.50$. I know for a fact I gave a 20$, but I received 5.50 in change. I tried to explain this to the bartender immediately but he told me he marked down I gave 10$. I know how this review sounds, but I’m honestly so furious and I will never return, which I know they probably couldn’t care less about. The bartender was a tall, lean, man with brown hair and a beard.

Super solid place for a local pub with local people. And $14 (or was it $16) for a double Knob Creek?! A steal compared to other places you may visit. Theres no kitchen here- just drinks. But it works.

Classic dive bar vibe. I visited a couple of nights while staying in town. The bartenders were kind and curteous, karaoke was fun and made the bar lively, and the drinks were poured well.

Needed a good old-fashioned dive bar karaoke experience last weekend and boy did this place deliver. Solid drafts at good prices, bar never too packed to get a drink reasonably fast, and both Nathan and Shiva were wonderful karaoke hosts who kept things moving and were great performers themselves. Fun diverse crowd, too!

*PLEASE DONT TAKE AWAY TUESDAY NIGHT KARAOKE*
For the longest time I’ve been hoping and wishing that JP’s would start doing karaoke earlier than 10pm — I have an early job, and it’s just not realistic for me to START my night at 10pm. But there aren’t any other better options in town either.

So you can imagine how ELATED I was when it was announced that karaoke would now be held at 8pm on Tuesdays! And I went, and the vibes were great.

Sure, the crowd wasn’t huge, but it was new and it takes time to build these things up. The energy was good, and a lot of people expressed the same excitement that I felt. And it was getting more crowded with each week!

But after only two weeks (at the beginning of week three) it was announced that Tuesday night karaoke wouldn’t be happening again. A range of reasons were given, from it not be cost effective (even though the KJ is literally doing it for FREE those nights) to it being slower than a typical Tuesday (even though it’s visibly way more crowded and lively than a typical Tuesday?), to it “driving away regulars,” which may be true, but this is how you get NEW regulars. I don’t go to JP’s super often or stay for very long when I do, but you can bet your ass I would be a REGULAR if Tuesday night karaoke stayed! And I’m far from the only one.

The last theory posited for why it was being canceled was that it was being marketed as an LGBT karaoke night, and people theorized that some of the regulars may have felt alienated by that label. I personally think that it’s GREAT to have events focused on creating queer-friendly spaces, and I think it’s HORRIFYING if the reason for canceling it is that the establishment is bending to the will of bigots. But if that IS the concern, then why not just keep it and market it in a more neutral way? Again, not that they should HAVE to market it differently, but I think we would all rather get to keep the karaoke, regardless of how it’s branded.

If they do go through with getting rid of Tuesdays, I’m BEGGING them to start doing one of the other nights at 8 instead of 10. I’m FAR from the only person that wants this!

(Also, side note, but it would be AWESOME if y’all got, like, one mic stand for karaoke. Some songs are hard to do with mic-in-hand)

The bar had a nice ambiance and I went on a Thursday, so the Karaoke was nice as well. However the bouncer tried to take my real ID, and it really put a damper on my night. He then had to get a second opinion and I ended up being allowed in. The same bouncer was later working at the bar and refused to serve me and the people I was with. It was a really frustrating time and me and the people I was with ended up going somewhere else.

The place is a great hangout spot. However, the karaoke host is rude. She really can’t sing good at all, but she would have a very strong opinion on the song you’d like to sing especially if it’s not upbeat and will embarrass you about it in the crowd by announcing it. Before you do, be sure you can sing and hit those notes. Be kind to your customers, and not just to the regulars. We are there to have fun and sing and not to impress you. The bartenders are great though.
