Also have a separate section for events which I didn’t knew.
1) Pizza – La Barca
– Chef Gero’s creation. The cream sauce for dipping is in the middle of the pizza. Tear, dip, enjoy.
– Rating: 9/10
2) Pasta – Risotto Porcini
– Risotto with mushrooms. Rice was soft and well cooked.
– Rating: 7.5/10
3) Pasta – Chitarria Carbonara
– Ordered for the kids who gobbled everything up. Wished I had more to myself.
– Rating 9/10
4) Lamb Shank
– Nice carrot chunks in making the plate look pretty. It was average and decent.
– Rating: 7/10
We made a reservation and the booking process went smoothly, so there were no issues at the start. Unfortunately, everything went downhill once the food arrived.
Our table ordered 3 Chitarra Carbonara, 1 Linguine al Cartoccio, 1 Rump Cap Picanha, 2 Spaghetti Aglio Olio, and 1 Lasagna. Every single dish arrived cold. On top of that, one of our orders was completely forgotten and only brought out after several of us had already finished eating.
The carbonara was shockingly bad, the sauce tasted like plain water with almost no flavour. It didn’t resemble a proper carbonara at all. The Rump Cap Picanha was served with no garnish, no sides, nothing, which is honestly embarrassing considering the price they charge. Overall the food quality was extremely poor, to the point where some of us genuinely felt like we might throw up.
For the price we were paying, this felt like daylight robbery. The food quality and execution were nowhere near the standard you would expect from a restaurant charging these prices.
To make things worse, there was a POS machine issue, so we were told we had to pay cash. They gave us truffle fries on the house, but honestly that doesn’t make up for terrible food and poor service.
Very disappointing experience. Definitely not a place I would return to or recommend.
The restaurant and the tables are a bit small, the space is a bit tight for big groups. We were a big group, there was hardly enough space to put sharing platters in addition to individual mains.
Staff are friendly but can be more attentive. For bigger groups, it might be better to try the private dining room.
We returned twice in 2025 and again early this year to support Chef Gero (we’ve enjoyed watching his Instagram reels). We made a reservation and arrived 5 minutes early, but no one was at the reception to welcome us, so we had to wait for a few minutes, even past our reservation time. We could see some staff coming in and out of the dining room, and there was also this tall kitchen staff who noticed us waiting at the front for some time, but he kept glancing at us. It would be more helpful if he had been proactive and alerted the waitstaff to attend to us, rather than just watching. At the very least, the staff could’ve acknowledged us instead of treating us like we were invisible or there for free meals. This happened when the restaurant was nearly empty on a weekday afternoon. A few minutes later came a Malay Malaysian waitstaff, but there was no apology, no greeting, no smile. We had to inform him that we had a reservation for two.
While we were eating, another Malay male kitchen staff repeatedly stared at one of us, making the experience feel uncomfortable.
While the food remains tasty, the service has definitely fallen below standard and could be improved. From what we observed, many of the staff lack proactiveness and friendliness. I’m not sure if Chef Gero is aware of this, but unfortunately, this will be our last visit to Kucina. Fortunately, there’s another excellent Muslim-owned Italian restaurant in Bedok that we can turn to instead. It’s disappointing, to say the least.
The place is packed during lunch and dinner rush so make reservations. Otherwise, come before or after those hours.
Both pasta is done right, flavourful, al dente, and fresh.
Tried their new dishes, Chicken & Lamb Skewer and we loved it, it’s was really good and full of charred aroma.
Service was also a highlight. The manager was attentive, warm, and made sure everything ran smoothly throughout our meal. She checked in at the right moments and made us feel genuinely welcome, which made a big difference to the overall experience.
Overall, a great place for good food and great hospitality. Will definitely be back and would happily recommend Kucina to others.
Enjoyed most of our dinner here. The constant smell of the pizzas being fired is amazing. The staff were also exceedingly attentive and on the ball with the service timings.
Thoroughly enjoyed the specialty Kucina antipasto and pizza. The desserts outperformed the norm, with the creme brulee custard tasting rich with yolks, and the tiramisu infused with coffee. The lavender earl grey looked and tasted much better than the menu image as well (loved the lychee).
With all that said, the gnocchi al salmone was disastrously bad. The sauce tasted as if they had blended day old leftover fish into it, and stunk up our table to high heaven. My lady found it quite inedible with a horrendous smell and flavor, and had to urge me several times not to eat it, to override my usual instinct not to waste food. She tried to get the server to take it away several times as well, in spite of my trying to make light of it (in error).
I understand that smoked salmon sometimes has a fishy odor (if this ingredient was used as per the kucina tik-tok from 2 months ago). Perhaps it was fresh salmon that smelled off as per the menu. But this particular batch was not at all good. Perhaps the restaurant should look into the supplier or source of this particular ingredient. The dish would require magnitudes more of either dill or basil to balance the flavor, for it to become even close to acceptable, and even then I would be doubtful.
We ordered the Mushroom soup, Lasagna, Gnocchi, Seafood Stew, pizza, Short Ribs with Risotto and desserts. The food quality met our expectations; everything tasted authentic and fresh. The portions were decent and just right for our group. It’s a nice, comfortable spot if you’re looking for a peaceful meal with good Italian flavors. Definitely suitable for families.
