The sushi they create here is nothing like we have on the east coast of the USA, the tuna melts in your mouth and they have a great deal on their A5 Wagu.

Our server was very attentive and engaging. He answered any questions and always asked how we were liking things.

If I find myself in Vancouver again I will be back.

Today was my first time trying here and the food quality was really good and I love that they are Oceanwise certified because they use sustainably caught ingredients.

My favourite was the salmon oshi, Brussel sprouts, and vanilla caramel ice cream. The staff was also nice to charge my near dying phone for me! Staff was genuinely friendly and it was a great experience.

Adding more pics for the recent dinner visit; craved for good sushi so went back to Minami for more. Their Seasonal drinks, Naughty & Nice Lists, were very tasty as well!

Went for lunch today and loved the place! The lady who helped our table was super friendly!

Had the Kaisen soba peperoncino to share, and we each had the Deluxe nigiri set. Perfect portion, fresh, and was tasty
Forgot the drink’s name, it was nice as well!

For authentic Japanese food experience this is not the place; however, for Westernized Japanese food it’s decent. Their customer service is excellent for their willingness to accommodate request. The atmosphere is like an upscale diner though.

I had the most incredible dining experience here. The tasting menu is truly authentic Japanese cuisine — every course was beautifully presented and thoughtfully balanced. From the delicate sashimi to the seasonal hot dishes, each bite highlighted the chef’s skill and respect for ingredients.

The service was warm, attentive, and never rushed, allowing us to enjoy the full progression of flavors at a perfect pace. The atmosphere is intimate yet welcoming, making it ideal for both a special occasion and an evening of discovery.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for an authentic Japanese tasting experience that goes far beyond the usual sushi spot.

Excellent restaurant with a perfect service. I had the tasting menu which is good and led you to a nice discovery to all what they are doing. You may end up a bit hungry and I needed to order something else. Just to know if you have a normal appetite 🙂 special mention to the signature opera – it is absolutely amazing – i may even say the best cake i ever had in Canada !

Kaisen Soba Peperoncino
Oshi Sampler
Bluefin Redwave Roll
Saba-bo Roll

Overall Thoughts:
When I eat at a restaurant with a higher price point, my expectation is not just quality food but interesting food. Minami satisfies this extra condition, if not barely, and thus garners my approval. While on a 10-point scale it wouldn’t be a 10/10, I am more than happy to give it a 5/5 on google maps in consideration of ratings inflation.

Dish-By-Dish:
I’ll start with the highlights and work downwards.

Saba-Bo Roll
This is a seared mackerel roll that has the eater combine it with a seaweed wrap. Not only is the fish seared well, smoky, and high quality, but the garnish also provides much needed texture and balance. The seaweed wrap is an interesting addition to the dish that adds to the experience and the flavor, which in my eyes justifies its price. This is the kind of dish I expect at a restaurant of this caliber, and one that I highly recommend. I think this is a fairly new item given that it is not on any of the menus currently on google maps.

Oshi Sampler
This is their acclaimed “hand-pressed roll” style sushi. It consists of rectangularly shaped nigiri-esque sushis that are topped with a sauce. My assumption is that this preparation was done to balance the ratio of fish-to rice, as the alternative would be just a nigiri. However, I honestly was not convinced that this style was better in any way than just a regular nigiri, though I am cutting it some slack since I did not consume many of these. In terms of quality, the fish is delicious and it is prepared well. However, it lacks the extra-ness that would justify it in my eyes.

Bluefin Redwave Roll
This is a classic tuna roll, though I feel that something was missing from either the composition or the preparation. The tuna was unusually soft, which usually isn’t a problem and is generally a great sign of preparedness and quality. However, the rest of the roll was equally as soft, and thus each roll felt like I was eating tuna rice mush. If I wanted to just eat tuna and rice I would have ordered a tuna nigiri. To clarify, I’ll use the example of a burger and spaghetti. Burgers benefit from having a variety of textures and tastes included in their composition, which allows each bite to have a variety of tastes. Spaghetti benefits from having a strong singular flavor profile. I think that the strength of a sushi roll is similar to the strength of a burger, wherein the variety of ingredients that are in the roll give it a unique set of flavor and texture profiles that other types of sushi are by design unable to have. This roll somewhat accomplishes this design idea taste-wise, but definitely not texture-wise. The texture was simply too soft, and honestly quite strange as this is something that usually only happens with overcooked rice, which this roll did not. In terms of the taste itself, the fish quality was high as were the other ingredients; my issue with it is simply the texture.

Kaisen Soba Peperoncino
This is a take on soba that is more reminiscent of a stir fry. It tastes like stir fried noodles, but overall is not very memorable. Not a bad dish, but not interesting enough to justify its price or its existence.

Came here to celebrate birthday. We ordered the ribeye steak and soba noodles. The taste and presentation of the dishes are superb. The dessert is also amusing. I love how they plate all the ingredients. Service is also unforgettably amazing. Recommended for anyone who wants to experience modern Japanese cuisine.

This was a recommendation from a local and the food was delicious! Our server was very accommodating and helpful. I would have given a 5 overall but I found the value for money a tad lacking. Still a wonderful place for sushi though

Boys oh boys… this place is pure love. Yeah, it’s a bit pricey (we spent like $200 including tip for 2), but honestly? The quality is chef’s kiss. And the server was also super nice! 100% worth it!
