Just down from the Dallas Arboretum is Smoky Rose, a delicious Tex-Mex spot that feels quaint and lively at the same time. Parking is easy to find out front and the interior is a noise mix of modern and classic western themes. They have both indoor and outdoor options, helping accommodate us with our dog on a cold day out. The menu is diverse and full of many food and drink options so there’s sure to be something for everyone, even those who aren’t the biggest fans of Tex-Mex.

We ordered the Smoky Rose cheeseburger and shrimp tacos. The cheeseburger was good, pretty par for the course as burgers go (which isn’t a bad thing). The shrimp tacos though, were amazing. The tacos did get a bit messy as we ate them since they were really piled on with ingredients, but some would call that a good thing. The beans they came with were good as well. While we didn’t order drinks we had a friend mention that his drink was pretty strong so that’s something to note if you come here looking for some. Everyone at our table seemed to really enjoy their food and everyone was happy by the time they got up to head out. It was a great meal and we’re glad we stopped by for a bite.

it had a great environment. I can say the music outside was a little bit loud, but you can sit a little bit further away so sound will not bother you. The brisket was good. The sausages were OK, but I’m not a sausage fan anyway we got the shareable board for four people and that was good amount of food on it. We also got the fries which was nice. The guac was fresh and great. The drinks were OK not too heavy.

BANGER. This place has some of the best bbq!! We got the meat plate to share with the table and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The brisket, ribs, and sausage were our favorites. Would recommend their side dishes and vegetables as a “palate cleanser” as well.

The outside ambience is very nice with tons of vine-covered pillars and cozy lighting! Staff was friendly and service was excellent, too.

First off, fantastic service from the waitstaff and valet guys that worked here on Sunday. They treated us well and made us feel comfortable. Especially whoever brought out the food, it honestly might have been one of the chefs’ here. He grabbed all the extra condiments and lil fixins we needed. Awesome guy!

Tasty Bites
Great service
Beautiful venue

Recommend:

Fries
Chips and white queso (light & crispy chips)
Cheeseburger
Carne Asada
Wings (Dry Rub)

Would not recommend:

Mashed Potatoes (muted and dry)
Chicken Fried Brisket

I ordered the chicken fried brisket during my visit and let me say this, it’s alright…

This item on the menu feels more like a novelty than a staple. The seasoning of the batter and fry were great but I don’t believe moist brisket is the right choice for this. I had a fatty tender cut of brisket and the meat itself was tasty but it felt so out of place. Breading adhesion is a big deal for chicken fried items. If I picked up the brisket with my fork then all of the batter probably would have fallen off. I believe the meat was too wet which caused the batter to steam off. Gravy was serviceable but small portion and semi congealed. I do appreciate them bringing out another side of it. Stay away from the mashed potatoes, comically dense.

I really like this place and i’ll keep coming back!

The chicken-fried brisket with pepper gravy was outstanding—easily the second best I’ve ever had behind GW’s BBQ in San Juan, TX. Crispy, tender, and full of flavor. Five stars for that dish alone.

The green beans looked great and had good flavor but were undercooked.

The burnt ends were a miss—over-sauced with BBQ, and the alternate sauce only slightly improved them. They were also brought out at the same time as the entrée and seemed to sit too long, which felt like a kitchen timing issue.

The espresso martini tasted like cold coffee with no detectable alcohol—clearly missing key ingredients.

Dessert was a nicely plated salted caramel cake, but it was dry, bland, and oddly had no salt.

There’s real potential here, but consistency from the kitchen and bar needs work. I’d return for the chicken-fried brisket, but the rest needs improvement.

You have to be there to experience it yourself because there’s not enough words to explain the vibe of this place. Just pull up and enjoy the atmosphere. Food is great and also the drinks!!

After spending a beautiful day at the Dallas Arboretum, we stopped in at Smoky Rose—conveniently located just across the street—and we’re so glad we did. While we originally chose it for the location, it turned out to be an outstanding dining experience from start to finish.

We kicked things off with the pork belly burnt ends, and they were phenomenal—crispy, caramelized, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. A perfect way to start the meal.

For entrées, we had the pulled pork quesadilla, smoked chicken enchiladas, and brisket street tacos. Every dish delivered rich, smoky flavor and was clearly crafted with care. The pulled pork quesadilla was cheesy and satisfying with a great smoky balance. The enchiladas had a deep, savory flavor and just the right amount of spice. The brisket tacos were packed with juicy, flavorful meat and topped just right—not overloaded, but still super satisfying.

To go along with the food, we tried the frozen Blackberry Bourbon Smash and a sangria. Both cocktails were refreshing and well-crafted—the bourbon smash was bold and icy-cool, while the sangria was fruity and easy to sip.

Smoky Rose isn’t just about convenience—it’s a true hidden gem with excellent food, great service, and a chill, welcoming vibe. Highly recommend!

The fact that the parking is valet only is a major deterrent for my family, as there is no where in the area to park otherwise, if you want to eat at this restaurant you will have to pay for parking as well. Came as part of a larger group for a reservation, I am unsure if this affected our service. This was a Wednesday night at 5:30PM. Throughout the meal the server was difficult to find, she would come over to see if we needed anything about every 30 minutes. Food got to the table in about 30 minutes from when it was ordered. One member of the party was sent the wrong order and it took an hour after that for the correct food to be brought to him, quite awhile after everyone else was done eating. He later ended up with food poisoning from his meal. I hate the Brisket tacos, the brisket was very dry and the rice was fairly bland. The beans were pretty good but overall not a meal I would want to eat again. The Blackberry Bourbon Smash was very good, I enjoyed it but I will say it does seem to have quite the low alcohol content and it a very small drink. Dessert took 40 min from when it was ordered to arrive at the table. I had the banana caramel cake and it was extremely dry- flavor was bland. Environment was fine, typical loud restaurant.
