Come for the variety of hot cocoa and amazing Princess Cake. Stay for the cozy cafe atmosphere. Bring a book, your knit/crochet project, or a copy of the Mount Horeb Mail (available on the table as you come in the front door). Sjolinds (Show-linds) is an authentic Norwegian bakery, serving saft, smorrebrod, and kottbullar (Swedish meatballs), alongside coffee, pastries, and the most divine quiche. A friend of mine recommended Sjolinds, so I planned to stop here and shop a bit then head around the corner to my old standby… That plan changed when I saw the menu!
I had the “potato sausage” because it was nothing like I’ve ever had! I’m used to the traditional Swedish rotmos and gently boiled links. Sjolinds serves patties with potato salad, and it works amazingly well!
I had a chance to chat with the chocolate maker, and she offered some great insights which allowed me to buy chocolate and still meet my wife’s dietary restrictions.
I expected a lot, and Sjolinds wildly exceeded my expectations!

Sjolind’s downtown location just reopened. It’s just as cute as ever. The displays of confections look beautiful. The baked goods are amazing. They are currently short-staffed like so many other businesses, so plan to patiently wait in line- it’s worth the minor inconvenience.

Amazing looking desserts but I went for baked goods and a coffee. Everything was well made and tasted great, it was a wonderful treat after camping nearby for the weekend. I fully intend on coming back!
