Don’t forget to try the spicy/sweet Mexican Sundae.
Burger is really good so is the Salmon with mash potatoes and vegetables. Salmon salad was ok, steak tacos were good. You can’t beat it for the price. Staff is super friendly and managers are very attentive. Definitely recommend this place and I will be back.
That said, let’s go.
The price. $5.99 for a hamburger? That is a great price in Miami! I was about to go to Black Point and pay $15 for a hamburger, and a buddy suggested Ocean One. Glad we went!
The food. Okay, what would a food review be without reviewing the food? The hamburger was okay, the bun was a bit soggy on the bottom. Not sure what that was all about, maybe it was hanging out in the heater for awhile? I’m not sure. It was not too salty, most places hamburgers are overly salted. This one was not overly salted. If you are used to lots of salt, you are going to need to add salt! And now the kicker. The onion I got was rotted. Like, really, rotted. You can notice in the picture that the onion had been cut a long time ago, and the center piece was starting to rise, as though it was about to sprout. Touching it was just disgusting. I did not eat the onion.
The service. The servers were nice, but it took a long time to have someone even come to our table. Not sure what the delay was. We were seated by the host, then just waited, and waited, and waited. Also, if you want anything? Be sure to tell the server every little thing you’ll need, because at least for us we never saw him again. We had to go to the bar to get forks and napkins.
The napkins. Oh golly. I love cloth napkins, and I use them t home. But these cloth napkins? They felt like sandpaper. Would prefer soft paper napkins to the sandpaper rough cloth napkins.
The locale. Centrally located in Kendall, that is nice. Right off the turnpike and Kendall Drive, so it is easy to get to from the north and the south.
Parking is not great in this particular place, so you’ll be on a hunt.
Ambiance. We went on Sunday afternoon, and it was way way way too loud. We asked for seating as far away from the speakers as we could get, and it was still too loud. Yuck. And then there is another bar and grill right next door, they appeared to be competing with one another. Not fun.
View. For a landlocked bar, it was really nice! It is right on the retention pond, so that is kind of nice.
Bathrooms. As you know, I evaluate places in part on their bathrooms. This bathroom, the floors were like slippery but not really slippery. They were like greasy or something, as you can see in the video. It wasn’t like I felt as though I would fall, it was just… not right. I’m not sure what to call it. Maybe if someone from the bar reads this they can explain. I am not making it up though, if you see the videos you’ll notice it is… slippery slide.
The only issue I had when I went was a customer smoking a cigar outside by our table as we were eating. I had to tell the waiter to tell them to stop and then go get the manager to tell them to stop. But that’s just a rude, inconsiderate customer- not the restaurant’s fault. Just be aware that you may have to deal with this when you eat outside.
many families with their kids. Amazing lunch menu is 4.99. they also have special offers for their, martinis, liquor and beers.
I will will be returning and I will be recommending Ocean One to my family friends and clients.
The food was O.K. Had drinks, a burger & a blackened salmon sandwich – seasoned fries are still really good. Wish the food was warmer when it arrived. NOTE: they could really have someone freshen up the bathrooms & sweep the outside patio- there was glass under our table, Gum on the floor, crumbled napkins, random paper and stuff on the floor in their outdoor area. Their soda is still weird tasting. it’s nice sitting outside overlooking the fountain, and the bridge which has tons of locks on the railings. Really cool. Also, we saved some of the bread from the buns and fed the fish & turtles in the lake after dinner. That was fun!
From October 2021 visit:
if half stars were available I would give this a 4 and a 1/2, the reason I’m not giving it a total 5 is because their Coke soda does not taste like Coca-Cola! For those who don’t like alcohol drinks and you want to order a soda, the soda taste is off – I’d recommend that you don’t get Coke get a Sprite. The Sprite taste more like a normal sprite. When we mentioned that the soda tasted off to our waiter, he actually told us they use some 3rd party carbonation company. We ordered a regular hamburger with cheese and bacon and mushrooms and the fish-and-chips, both come with seasoned French Fries that were very, very tasty. The Burger was good and the breaded fish was just one big fish filet (not sure what kind of fish). We also ordered a Coke, a water and a chocolate martini (3/$10, and you can mix and match the drinks – if you just want one, it’s still $10. So you may a well get all 3). The drink was made with vanilla Stoli and and Bailey’s light, and it was very very yummy & tasty as well. We went on a Saturday around 2 o’clock for lunch and didn’t have to wait long to be seated and did not have to wait long to get our drinks or food. We sat outside overlooking the fountain. That was a very nice atmosphere and we really enjoyed the cool breeze that was blowing. It’s been a long time since we had a meal at a restaurant. Their lunch specials are unbelievably priced although they do say no substitutions, and when you look on the menu, they spelled the word substitution incorrectly, lol! ONLY ON MIAMI! It was the day before Halloween so the restaurant restaurant was decked out in spooky in spooky scary stuff and our waiter was wearing a ripped shirt and had blood on him specific for the occasion! He was friendly. I Would definitely recommend going there for their lunch specials, their dinner menu looks pretty good as well. We enjoyed our lunch, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the ambience. We sat outside and enjoyed our time there.
I had the veggie burger. It appears that it is one that is made in-house, because it was delicious. It was HUGE and came with delicious French fries. It is way more food that one person could eat and I enjoyed it very much. There isn’t much more on the menu for a vegetarian, but I was satisfied with the veg burger (there are a couple salads, but almost everything has meat, seafood, or chicken). My mother had fish and chips. It was the biggest piece of fish I had ever seen. The batter was fried to perfection and the fish was white and she said it was delicious. It came with French fries also, and cole slaw.
For dessert we had a magnificent piece of key lime pie – it topped off the meal perfectly. For all that food, the bill was only $15 – everything at lunch is $5! That was an incredible price for not only the amount of food but the goodness of it.
The place was clean and pleasant and had a nice vibe. I found the music just a little too loud, but that’s just me. There is free parking in a huge parking lot, so no issues with that at all. On a nice day, there is outdoor seating that would be very pleasant since it is around a lake. Great place; we enjoyed it!
p.s. I would have appreciated it if the servers and hostess and other employees would have been wearing face masks, but they were not. It was July 7, 21, so they are not required, but most places I go in the employees still wear the masks. It is just my personal preference to be on the safe-side. But, that issue did not stop me from eating here; again, just my preference. This, and, the lack of more vegetarian choices are the only 2 reasons for the 4-star instead of 5-star.
