recently visited Caracol for a birthday dinner and overall had a pleasant experience. The restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere with a relaxed but upscale coastal Mexican vibe, making it a nice place for a special occasion or dinner out.

We ordered several dishes to share. The oysters were nicely prepared with a flavorful crust on top and served hot, which made them one of the more memorable items of the evening. The enchiladas were also enjoyable, with a good balance of sauces and toppings that added depth without overwhelming the dish.

The short rib entrée was very tender and presented beautifully. The sauce had a rich, complex flavor, though the portion felt slightly small relative to the price.

The rice dish was comforting and flavorful, but it didn’t stand out compared to the other plates. Overall, the food was good and thoughtfully plated, though a few dishes lacked the “wow” factor I was expecting from a restaurant with Caracol’s reputation.

Service was friendly and attentive, and they made a nice gesture by bringing out a birthday dessert, which was a thoughtful touch and helped make the evening feel special.

Overall, I’d rate my experience 7/10. Caracol offers a lovely setting, good service, and solid Mexican coastal cuisine. While some dishes impressed more than others, it’s still a nice spot for a celebratory dinner in Houston.

This Restaurant offers a memorable dining experience that blends elegance with bold coastal flavors. The beautiful décor immediately sets the tone—stylish, vibrant, and thoughtfully designed, making it perfect for both special occasions and relaxed upscale dining. The seafood truly shines here, with dishes that are not only delicious but also impeccably presented. There’s an impressive variety of choices on the menu, showcasing the depth and creativity of Mexican coastal cuisine. The mussels are a standout—exceptionally fresh, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. From presentation to taste, Caracol delivers a refined yet inviting experience that keeps you coming back.

Service and restaurant design are very nice. We sat at the bar for both lunch and dinner and service was very prompt and friendly. Unfortunately the food was below average in my opinion, especially for the cost. At lunch I had the Queso Flameado which was the highlight of both of our visits – full of flavor and was a nice surprise to have huitlacoche in the dish. I also had the torta. The fish in the sandwich was under seasoned – lacking flavor. At dinner we both ordered the Cremoso de Camarón and unfortunately it was riddled with issues. First, the shrimp was over cooked and underseasoned. The rice was fair, but would have benefited greatly from citrus or seasoning (salt). So disappointing – we were really hoping for a much better culinary experience in Houston.

Amazing!! I came for brunch, the food was so amazingly delicious!! Every single thing I tasted was perfect. I sat at the bar and enjoyed the brunch buffet. We had mimosa pitchers and enjoyed the live music and service from the bartender Ashley who went above and beyond with her service. I highly recommend the brunch. I will be back!! And don’t listen to the hostess who may tell you brunch buffet is only for reservations. Had we listened, we would’ve left instead we sat at the bar and were still able to enjoy the buffet.

It was SO good! I was nervous driving so out of the way to try it, but I’m glad we did! My husband got the swordfish sandwich and fries which was delicious. I got the seared tuna tacos which I probably could’ve ate like 30 of them because it was so good! The atmosphere was great and service wonderful.

An absolute delight of a restaurant.
Pros: Food quality, service, ambience, parking validation in attached garage
Cons: if any, limited size of menu(but whats on is usually phenomenal)

Been here countless times and everytime has been a completely tasteful experience and would recommend to anyone feeling a coastal Mexican cuisine.

Their french toast, ceviche and short rib empanadas are my highlights.

Sunday Brunch was $45 for adults and $15 for kids. They had tamales, mini taquitos, meats and some potato/corn/paella for carbs. They also have bay scallops and oysters in a separate area. Dessert table had ample samplings. Overall, food was just average. Nothing that really made me think of wanting to go back. I prefer Hugo’s by a smidge. The only thing that stood out for me was their margarita. Pass on the Sangria.

The interior was lovely, though. There was a live band right by the entrance/buffet area, which was nice. One can still hold conversation without screaming over another. Validated parking in the garage next door

The food was very good, no complaints at all. The only reason I didnt rate this place higher is that parking kind of sucked. (Its in a rich part of town and I hate valet.) The meal was expensive, and you can get comparable food for a better price elsewhere. It is definitely a high end place, and you can expect to pay high end prices. The staff were outstanding, I just am turned off by the idea that paying more automatically means its better. (Likely a personality flaw on myself, and not the restaurant.) Over all, I would recommend this place if you are looking to impress or want a special night out.

Caracol is hands down one of the best dining experiences in Houston. The atmosphere is vibrant yet elegant, with beautiful décor that sets the stage for a special evening. The seafood is outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and prepared with unique coastal Mexican flair you don’t find anywhere else. The wood-grilled oysters and ceviches are absolute must-tries, and the mole dishes are incredible. We also liked the calamari and the sea bass. Service is attentive, friendly, and makes you feel well taken care of without being intrusive. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just want a memorable meal, Caracol is a top choice in Houston. Highly recommend making a reservation, as it does get busy!
