Reviews
From the beginning of the evening, it felt as though our table had been forgotten. It took quite a while for anyone to bring us menus or a wine list. Once we ordered, the appetizers arrived and were excellent—beautifully presented and full of flavor. The main courses were also delicious, with one exception: my friend’s lamb, ordered medium, arrived nearly raw—far closer to blue than rare. She’s not picky, but this was clearly undercooked. It took some time to flag someone down to return it to the kitchen, and we noticed another table nearby also sending their meat back.
Dessert was enjoyable, but our coffees were brought to us afterward and served lukewarm. After finishing, we asked for the bill—but again, we were left waiting. We had to ask three different staff members before my husband eventually got up to find someone. He discovered the staff gathered in the back, drinking. When we finally received the bill, the waiter offered only a weak apology and questioned who we had spoken to earlier. I simply told him this wasn’t the level of service we were used to, especially for a special occasion. He said nothing in response.
We still appreciate the food and the setting at Le Surcouf, but this experience was disappointing. We hope this was an off night and not a sign of declining standards. We have been to the Surcouf many times in the past.
It was clear that no one on staff knew who was responsible for our table. Throughout the evening, we were approached by five different people, none of whom seemed to be communicating with each other. At a restaurant known for its typically high standards of service, this lack of coordination was especially disappointing.
Today I finally visited this, in my opinion, legendary restaurant. Before this, I had several unsuccessful attempts to reserve a table for the dates I wanted, but unfortunately, it was always fully booked. And today I succeeded.
What can I say? A very, very beautiful interior, creating a feeling of luxury and coziness at the same time. Many paintings, beautiful furniture, truly interesting French music that perfectly complements the atmosphere.
The waiters are friendly, very hospitable, they know the menu inside and out and can perfectly pair drinks with any dish, making the choice even more enjoyable.
The food is magnificent, each dish is a work of art. The presentation truly deserves a separate compliment, and the flavors are simply fire! Special thanks to the chef for their mastery.
In short, I am very happy to have visited this restaurant, and I highly recommend it if you want to taste outstanding French cuisine and enjoy an unforgettable evening.

Substantial portion sizes for a French restaurant
Well presented dishes, perfectly cooked and traditional recipes
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a smart- casual meal.
Can’t wait until we’re back in Canada so we can come again!
Our table had the following: lobster bisque, French onion soup, endive salad with blue cheese, foie gras, and snails. We then had a variety of fish, liver, lamb (known for), veal and cognac flambé filet mignon (best I have ever had). Ended the night with coffee and desserts such as crème brulé, profiteroles, crepes Suzette, and crème caramel.
Emily, our server, was outstanding! Looking forward to our next visit.
Although the wine selection is very respectable, the house wine is awesome.
