The bad news…this is quite pricey for breakfast. The chorizo burrito with coffee and tip came to over $26 (only 15% tip because bill so high)! That’s a very expensive breakfast in my book. The coffee is typical diner coffee (brown, tasteless hot water, and way way overpriced at $4).
The good news…the food was delicious and ample in size.
I always ask myself if i would come back to a place after an initial visit…this is tough to answer. I think if the very ersatz coffee price had been where it should have been ($1, $2 at very most) it would definitely make it easier to answer. Because I definitely feel slighted when overcharged for inferior product. If i ran this restaurant, i would offer premium coffee at the $4 price and the brown flavorless hot water at $1 ($2 very most). Coffee makes all the difference in the world these days and having that terrible coffee with such an excellent meal really threw a damper on the whole situation. Even though the food was delicious and ample in size, the price was quite high and the sting of the coffee overcharge makes me think I’ll drive by for a couple more decades.
NOT THIS TIME!!!!
A few days ago around 4pm, I ordered takeout for a large vegetable soup they were serving that day. I’d done this several times in the past ordering their soups, and have always perfectly satisfied.
This was HORRIBLE! They had vegetable soup that day, and since I wasn’t feeling well, ordered 2 large vegetable soups, one for the next day. . . Really was looking forward to it.
I was absolutely MAJORLY SHOCKED!! Their so-called vegetable soup consisted of NOTHING but FROZEN vegetables with a water base/broth! All vegetables were consistently shaped pre-cut (potatoes were evenly cut in consistent little skinned white squares and carrots perfectly sliced in little rounds to name a few of the slim variety of vegetables).
The taste and texture were HORRENDOUS!! Absolutely NO type of seasoning.
I wound up trying to eat as best I could to have this absolutely GROSS, TASTELESS, and DISGUSTING soup with its non-existing (almost foul) flavor. I attempted about 3 bites of the such abhorrent soup, I had to toss it and the 2nd soup as well. Twenty dollars down the drain!!
As I said before, I have ALWAYS been happy with their portions and quality of food. But this was SO BAD, I felt that I needed to at least forewarn any others about their so-called “vegetable soup!” I RARELY post negative reviews, but Black Bear Diner ABSOLUTELY deserved this one!!!!
The ambience -the total experience- OutStanding.
I will add photos and elaborate more in a bit. Currently enjoying dinner at “Strings” in Modesto, CA. (I will review Strings as well, and although Strings is good and in my hometown, the Black Bear Diner in Sequim, Washington gets 6 out of 5 stars! The highest marked review I have yet to write. Truly remarkable service, ambiance-experience across the board!!!)
