Matsuda was a pleasant surprise! I can absolutely see why it’s stayed popular in Scarborough for so long.
I came here last Sunday with some close friends. We were originally planning to go to Momokoko in Markham, only to find out it had permanently closed (HUGE RIP ). We were set on all-you-can-eat sushi but wanted something different from the usual Ichiban, Sushi Legend, or Kung Fu (my friends are from the west end), so we decided to try out the Scarborough-based Matsuda. Since the Don Valley location was closer and seemed a bit more low-key, we chose that over their original spot.
Walking in, you can tell the restaurant is a bit dated—the tables even had that lingering wet-cloth smell—so it could definitely use some renovations. That said, the service was great and, more importantly, the food really delivered.
The selection was solid, with all the usual staples plus some rarer favorites like sweet shrimp, which I was very happy to see. The torched sushi options were limited (just salmon, shrimp, and mackerel), but they were well done and more than enough for our group. What truly stood out, though, were the grilled ribs and grilled steak bites—tender, well-marinated, and grilled to perfection. Honestly, I’d come back just for those. My friends also really enjoyed the house special rolls.
The tempura was another highlight. One version came topped with shichimi spices, which added a really nice kick. I wasn’t as into the tempura dipping sauce, though—it was oddly served lukewarm alongside the soy sauce at the table, which felt a bit off.
Dessert was surprisingly strong. The crème brûlée and the panna cotta with tapioca were both excellent and easily my favorites.
Overall, between the wide selection and some standout dishes, Matsuda left a great impression on us. Despite the dated interior, we genuinely enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back.

I got the ayce teppankyaki. They start off making u scan QR to order but it doesn’t include the teppankyaki. The sushi came out fast and a chef comes out with a bin and served us 1 of everything on the teppankyaki menu then after asked what we want more of and we Can order as much as we like. The sashimi also comes in ice which is nice. The chef’s very friendly though its weird initially getting 1 if everything since I’m not a big fan of all the fish. Still solid restaurant and good service and food .

Had the Teppanyaki AYCE dinner and it was great. There were tons of food options, including most of the regular AYCE selections, plus additional teppanyaki choices like steak, large shrimp, ribs, fish fillet, salmon, chicken, tofu, and vegetables. The staff asked about our food allergies one by one and were very attentive. A chef cooks the teppanyaki dishes right in front of you; he was professional, skilled, and had a good sense of humor. He was also happy to refill our food requests. Must try the passion fruit jelly. With the affordable price and excellent service, we were very satisfied.

First time visiting for a team lunch. We chose the AYCE teppanyaki package. The service was good, especially the chef, who provided detailed explanations for each dish. Portions were generous. The flavours were a bit heavy for my personal taste, so I preferred the sashimi and tempura. Overall, it was a pleasant lunch experience.

This place has been here for over 15+ years and I’ve just recently discovered it! I cannot praise it enough. For me, excellent AYCE Japanese food requires consistency in quality every round, great diversity and efficient service. Matsuda hits them all out of the park and exceeded my expectations.
(The attached photo shows the how fresh the sashimi is, and this was towards the end of my sitting)

We come to this location quite often for birthdays and big group celebrations. The atmosphere is perfect for bigger groups with many large tables to host more than 15+ guests. The staff here is always quick, and get the job done. Place your order on your phone, and start eating within minutes. Everything here is delicious. We never have any complaints about the food or the speed that it gets to us. Highly recommend this location for a quality all you can eat dining experience. They also have hibachi which was cool to see in the background while we enjoyed our meal.

We have been dining at this Matsuda location since our kids were little, and it remains our go-to spot to this day. It’s rare to find a place that maintains such high standards for so many years!
The food is consistently delicious, but what truly sets this branch apart is the people. The staff and owners (Kitty,Guya,Suzie, and Brian) are incredibly welcoming and attentive, making every visit feel special. Great food and top-tier service as always. Highly recommended for families!

The restaurant is a bit old, so everything seems to be a bit dirty. Chairs at the temppenayki tables are all metal without cushions. They are extremely uncomfortable.
