With its bright fluorescent lighting and concrete flooring, this place screams “mom and pop.” The gentleman who served us was nice enough and the food came out in a timely manner. We started with a two piece garlic cheese bread, which was delicious. For dinner, I got the cheese tortellini and asked for half red and half Alfredo sauce and they were happy to accommodate. It was pretty tasty but it was literally just tortellini and sauce. My husband got the garlic butter pasta with meatballs. It was *impressively* bad. Flavorless, I don’t know if there was even any salt in it. Just noodles and butter with some Italian seasoning, and two meatballs that were tough on the bottom, and a very faint hint of garlic. Both entrees came with two slices of plain, untoasted, unheated white bread with a little disposable thing of butter. I know the owners of this place probably have good intentions, but I would advise them to give both the menu and the atmosphere a serious overhaul.

Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant!
My wife, daughter, and i dined here earlier today. We ordered fried ravioli, jumbo stuffed pasta, kids chicken nuggets, and the Manicotti. Everything came out tasting great. The server did inform us that their fryer had kicked the bucket so I was pleasantly surprised that our fried Ravioli and the chicken nuggets still tasted well being I assume cooked in a frying pan. So props to the chef for making that work. Overall we had a good experience. My only real critiques are I wish we were given garlic bread or something toasted. Was kinda weird they just put a plain piece of bread on the plate when everything else seamed to be all homemade, fresh, and of high quality. the dining area could definitely use some new floors and some layout adjustments as well. But the place did seam to be kept clean and tidy which is a huge thumbs up for me. We will be returning to try some other items on the menu. The food was really simple and delicious.

Person who served me was nice but there’s no way this food is edible. I got a small custom pizza with chicken, Canadian bacon, and pepperoni. Pizza dough is just raw, all I can taste is the raw dough and very overpowering Italian seasoning. Pizza dough is wet and soggy, The pizza bread was better then the actual pizza! And way cheaper also.

We had our first trip to Sutera’s tonight and absolutely loved it! My wife had the stuffed shells and I had the chicken parm – both were outstanding! We also tried a side of their Alfredo sauce and used it to dip the bread- one of the best Alfredo’s I have ever had! Brought their flourless chocolate cake home for dessert! Excellent service and prices! We will be back!

Easy to find with plenty of parking. Sutera’s Italian restaurant has been feeding hungry citizens of Kansas City for at least three generations. I remember my Grandfather taking me to Sutera’s way back in the late 1960’s when they were still in the West bottoms near the stockyards. When the princess and I moved to our home in Armor Hills we thoroughly enjoyed their restaurant in Brookside in the 1980’s and dined there often. I just discovered this location in Gladstone last week. I had a meatball sandwich and my vegetarian friend ordered the baked vegetable casserole. The food was excellent and served fast and hot ! Our server , Frank, was very knowledgeable and seemed happy to answer all of our questions. I really enjoyed this meal and I am sure to return soon.

First time eating here. The food was fantastic and in large quantity for the price. Frank was a really great guy. Nice, open dining area. No booths but the tables and chairs were comfortable. The food is made to order and came out nice and hot. I would recommend stopping in and trying a variety of pizza and Italian pasta dishes.

Great Italian food. The pizza was loaded with toppings and the pepperoni was crisped. Nice size salad. They have house made dressing. Plenty of tables. Wine and beer specials. Parking right out front. Easy access from Shawnee Mission Parkway. Service was a tad on the slow side with regards to drink refills. Extra napkins weren’t brought to the table. As a person that is always cold, it was very warm in the restaurant. Almost to the level of being uncomfortable. Again the food was delicious and the place is clean. The 4 star rating is due to the service and temperature of the location.

We loved the food and the service. Bad reviews talk about the ambiance, the floor is concrete, the walls are bare, who cares? I don’t eat off the floor or wall. We LOVED the lasagna and the the garlic cheese bread. The chicken Alfredo and the pasta and meatballs were great too. The sauces are on the thin side but very tasty. The canolli was a wonderful finish. We will be returning.
