Amazing food. Loved the tartiflette and the wine. The salad was ok. Definitely worth the attention.Small cute little French restaurant with a nice atmosphere and not expensive
Do not forget to reserve a table ! It is really crowded
I am currently on crutches with a severe knee injury, so when we arrived, I politely asked for a table out of the way in the reservation. Instead, we were placed directly in the main walkway where hot plates were constantly being rushed past us. After obvious side-eyeing and gossiping between staff, we were asked to shuffle around the table “out of the way”, despite the fact that I am on crutches.
It became even more shocking when the waiter removed my crutches from the door handle, held onto them, and then asked me, the injured person he had just told to move , to stand up so he could access a door behind me, without even handing the crutches back first. It was humiliating and completely lacking in basic care or common sense.
The service deteriorated further. While serving, the waiter threw hot cheese onto one member of our party’s trousers and did not apologise. Instead, he returned to say, “That will smell, you won’t like it,” in a rude tone. No apology. No offer to help.
When our fondue arrived, he refused to light the candle. When we tried to get his attention, he deliberately ignored us, only to later admit, “I heard you but I ignored you.” We had to flag down another waiter just to have the candle lit , something that is fundamental to serving fondue.
The food itself was incredibly bland and underwhelming, clearly aimed at tourists rather than locals who know what good French cuisine should taste like. The entire atmosphere felt like a tourist trap rather than an authentic restaurant.
The rudeness continued throughout the meal. When clearing plates, he remarked, “I have tried to disturb you a lot this evening already,” as though basic service was an inconvenience. When bringing dessert menus, he sarcastically announced he would fetch the “English menus,” despite the fact that we speak fluent French, we were simply hosting English parents.
Ordering dessert was equally chaotic. He came to ask for our order but brought nothing to write it down. After we gave our selections, he made a theatrical fuss about fetching a colleague with a pad, claiming, “I cannot remember all of the orders.” This after already taking them.
When we asked to substitute ice cream for cream with one dessert, he suddenly pretended not to understand English. When we asked again in French, he bluntly said “non.” We then politely requested a vanilla ice cream on the side instead, and he reacted with visible disgust.
As a local, I am appalled that a restaurant in Grenoble would treat guests, particularly someone with a disability, with such disrespect. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone living in or visiting Grenoble. There are many wonderful establishments here that embody genuine French hospitality. This is not one of them.
The star of the Dauphinoise cuisine seems to be the gratin, a cheese delicacy, delivered in a hot iron cast dish, next to a fresh leaves salad. It goes lovely with a glass of Chardonnay. Came here for dinner on a Monday directly from a hike to Bastille and the restaurant was packed with clients. We managed to get a table without reservation but I guess that booking a table is mandatory over the weekend.
I left hungry many restaurants in France after paying a fortune for some microscopic dishes, however, here is not the case. It’s a dinner to enjoy with friends, after climbing some steep cliffs in Chartreuse mountains. Anyway, the restaurant is furbished like a Savoyard cottage nestled on some dramatic Alpine slopes.
But the food….we had 3 different dishes: terrine, ravioli and the beef steak. Everything was awful.
Terrine was not eatable – just not tasty at all. Ravioli were burned and cheese all over. Beef steak was not tender. The pickles which we served complimentary upfront were inedible.
Also the service took way too long to clean a table and get us seated. The table was free for 10min…
I don’t agree with the rating. There are so many much better places in the area
The place itself is very cozy, friendly and perfect to go out and eat with your close friends or colleagues! They were very welcoming and thoughtful towards English speaking guessts. I can’t wait to go back there again!
I seriously think the ‘Le Cafe Gourmand’ should be EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD!!! It is a new concept for me, but it really solves the problem of thinking which desert to take after the main course!!! TAKE ALL, with a small portion for each. French has provided a perfect solution for people who has difficulties in deciding which dessert or who wants everything.
Would love to go back there for dinner again! The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is cozy!
