Reviews
A few months ago, we discovered a local Louisville steakhouse that completely won us over. We were so impressed that we returned three more times in the last six months. I genuinely thought we had hit the jackpot.
When our son came in from out west, we couldn’t wait to take him there. As excited as he was, he surprised us by saying he knew an even better spot—Repeal Oak-Fired Steakhouse. No way, I thought. So we agreed to a friendly “Steak Challenge.” Friday night was our pick—and it was fantastic. Tonight was his choice.
Let me just say this: Repeal did not come in second. It didn’t even come close to disappointing. It was exceptional.
First, the service. Our server, Thomas, was simply outstanding. His knowledge of the menu, preparation methods, wine and cocktail pairings—everything—was second to none. Professional, attentive, and effortlessly polished, he made us feel like royalty without ever being overbearing. Thomas is the kind of person who elevates an entire dining experience. He represents the restaurant with excellence, and it’s clear he takes immense pride in what he does.
Now, the food.
The bread arrived warm, soft and buttery on the inside with just the right crisp on the outside, finished with a delicate touch of sea salt—an incredible start. For appetizers, we ordered the Truffled Bucatini and the Oak-Fired Heirloom Carrots. Both were absolute must-haves, layered with flavor and perfectly executed.
Our sides included Yukon Gold Whipped Potatoes, Baked Mac & Cheese, and Thick-Cut Peppered Bacon. The potatoes were light, velvety, and rich without being heavy. The mac & cheese was indulgent, featuring a blend of cheeses topped with beautifully browned breadcrumbs. And the bacon? Savory, substantial, and unforgettable.
Then came the steaks.
In all my years of dining—across cities, states, islands, and countries—these were the best steaks I’ve ever had. That’s not a statement I make lightly. I won’t claim there isn’t another great steak somewhere out there, but based on our personal experiences, this was the pinnacle.
So, the final score in our Steak Challenge:
Our longtime favorite: 8/10
Repeal Oak-Fired Steakhouse: 10/10
Service, atmosphere, quality, and overall experience—Repeal excelled across the board. Honorable mention once again to Thomas for making an incredible evening even better. We will absolutely be back.
Thank you to the entire team at Repeal for delivering excellence at every level. And special thanks to the owner for assembling such a remarkable staff—they are what make this restaurant truly outstanding.
The meal was complete by the excellent Cabernet red wine that was also recommended by Miranda. A true 10 out of 10 and can’t wait to come back!!!
Great service. Pretty busy. Sat by the bar at a booth.
The entire staff was professional and handled the rush during the Louisville game impressively. The atmosphere was great and the food was amazing. I highly recommend the bone marrow appetizer—it is especially delicious when added to the steak.
We had a great experience and look forward to returning soon
The service was top tier, very professional and helpful. The vibe was classy and cozy, I loved the lighting and plants.
From the drinks to the food, we were blown away by each item. I saw others’ reviews of the bread and wow!! Everyone was right. The bread was a showstopper. The steak was the best I’ve had in town– smooth, evenly cooked, perfect seasoning. The tuna tartar was phenomenal, I highly recommend. Perfect salad and soup, incredible bread pudding (which we took home so I didn’t photograph). My honey for the bees cocktail is my new favorite drink in town. We will absolutely be returning here many times in the future.
