First time trying real, deep dish pizza & it was amazing! Very friendly service and all the food was homemade and authentic. Very glad we got to stop by on our vacation. Also, I didn’t catch her name, but our waitress (she said she had been there since the early 70s) was so nice and made our lunch extra fun.

This Lou’s is the original location great history! Excellent deep dish, as well as service. I ordered a large cheese with the butter crust which is must! Crust was nice and golden and they are definitely not shy with the cheese, sauce is was good super fresh ingredients… There’s about a thirty minute wait for the pizza, but that’s to be expected. Well worth the price you pay, as it’s some of the best Chicago deep dish…It definitely stays true to it’s reputation.
100% recommend!

UPDATE: Corporate reached out the day after and not only apologized but offered compensation for the situation. I’ve updated my review because of that support. We love Lou’s pizza and continue to be loyal customers.

ORIGINAL REVIEW (August 2025): I LOVE Lou’s. As a former employee, I preach it and tell everyone I know it is the only way as far as deep dish goes. However, this location continues to disappoint and our most recent experience really warrants this review.

The manager at this location on the day we were served–Khalil–was very rude and condescending. We purchased 3 sides of creamy garlic dressing and were given thousand island. We returned the dressings 3x, and were always given the same dressing. We showed them a picture, confirmation of a previous order, gave evidence of the smell, color, and flavor of creamy garlic, asked if the recipe has changed within the last week that we ordered from the same location (because that would explain it), etc. After multiple attempts at reaching a solution, I was told that i was wrong and offered no remediation. I requested a refund and told them that after a decade of ordering, including several years working as am employee who has served and prepped these dressings, I did not appreciate the lack of compassion or effort to fix the situation. We have been ordering creamy garlic for YEARS, and everyone we have brought out of town and locally we show them the joy of putting it on their pizza. No one ever turns it down and they always obsess over the flavor it adds to their deep dish.

I have attached a photo of the creamy garlic we have always received (left side), and the “Creamy garlic” that was sold to us when we ordered on 8/10 (right side). Creamy garlic has pieces of garlic, a fragrant flavor, a white hue, and no black specs inside of it. It also does not taste like pickles.

I genuinely wish I had the energy to sue these people. I ordered the penne ala malnati via Grubhub. I opened the package and notice brown ingredients that i was hoping was peppers. Upon stirring, I realized the sauce was filled with mushrooms (Which I’m allergic to). I called and asked if this was normal because mushrooms are not listed. The man i spoke with said it was weird because mushrooms are not even by the pasta side and offered an apology.

Ordered a cheese pizza with jardinier and Italian beef extra cheese extra sauce butter crust, a salad and chicken wings…
I got a sausage pizza with no extra cheese no extra sauce, chicken wings wrong sauce, salad dressing was wrong, I contacted and was promised a refund which they never delivered so I’m out $75 and the squirrels in my garbage can are now dining on this disgusting Pizza. FYI I’ve been eating there for over 40 years. Never again!

The original Lou Malnati’s!! THE BEST!!! Get a deep dish, wings, and the malnati salad! YOU WON’T REGRET IT! My favorites are the sausage and spinach deep dish pizzas. This is best deep dish in Chicagoland!

Been coming here for at least a couple decades. Whether it’s for dine in or carry out the quality has always been consistent. Their pizza is always great paired with one of their salads and another appetizer. Wash it down with some cold soda and you’re set. I recommend having them leave it in the oven an extra 5 minutes for that extra crisp. It goes well with some giardiniera on top. Not sure why people even bother going to Pequod’s when this place exists. Everything is just well balanced. Be sure to take advantage of their mobile app for added perks. You’re welcome.

I haven’t been here since the mid 1980’s so it was a real treat to return, to say the least. Our pizza was excellent and the Malnati salad that we ordered was delicious. Our waitress was Liz and she was friendly and very efficient. It’s clean as can be and was very busy, but not crazy busy for seating. Lots of places to sit in different rooms. We chose to sit in a booth in the bar area where it was pretty quiet with only one other person at the bar. I am so glad that we got to go back to the original place I remember when I lived down in Chicago for a couple summers while I was in college. I also bought two bottles of the salad dressings to take home. It’s so good; I recommend you get a salad so that you can try it too. I am attaching lots of photos. Thank you Lou Malnati’s for an excellent meal in a cozy setting.
