Had an enjoyable Friday dinner on a visit to Ottawa, the restaurant was quite busy but we were able to get a seat after a brief wait.
We had mussels as an appetizer, I thought the sauce and the fries were excellent, quality of the mussels themselves was ok.
I had the duck for my main, which I thought was a bit dry. Sides were very well done however.
Portion sizes were generous and great for the price. Atmosphere of the restaurant was fun and it was a unique experience having french food in a bar style restaurant.
I’d come again to try other items but if it’s a cold day out, would recommend to request a table inside the main area, as we were seated in a space near the entrance and whenever the door opened it got a bit cold.

Had the most amazing meal Wednesday night. Shoutout to Lori!! This was one of the best dinning experience I have ever had, the service was amazing, she was kind, efficient, and so so lovely! We ordered the seafood fettuccine which was a nice balance of light cream sauce, seafood (muscle, scallops, and salmon), and sun-dried tomatoes. The Dijon chicken was a nice dish paired with mashed potatoes, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. The escargots paired well with cheese and perfectly toasted bread. Can’t forget, the cheesecake for dessert. It was very smooth and was paired with a berry sauce. Can’t say dinner was anything less than spectacular, would definitely recommend!

Delicious food and drinks, good draught beer and cider.
We had chicken Dijon and fettuccine steak, both of which were spectacular.
Very good value for money and excellent service.

While wandering through ByWard Market, we decided to step off the usual path and try Chez Lucien. It turned out to be a great choice!

The scallops were beautifully prepared, the duck flavourful, and the Croque Monsieur a perfectly executed classic. Each dish felt thoughtful without being overdone. Service matched the food – warm, attentive, and unhurried.

The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, which means seating can feel a little snug, but for two people it worked okay.

Chez Lucien is a gem worth seeking out if you’re in the area, especially if you’re after good food in a relaxed, neighborhood setting.

We came in as a group of 7, the place was pretty busy. We were seated quickly but you can tell that its packed and busy as there were some tables that haven’t been cleared yet. Our server was very nice and attentive, she deserves credit as she did her best with a smile despite being the only one serving our area. We had a brunch menu, pretty sure their menu changes depending on what time you would be dining. Ordered Spicy Beef Nachos and Frida & Diego Burger – their fries was perfect cooked and seasoned, the burger also great, you get a really thick somewhat juicy beef patty and the flavors just work really well. The nachos was just okay for us. Overall, its a mixed review. Thinking we should try their dinner service next time.

I’ve been going to Chez Lucien since 2020. It has never disappointed. Creative burger creations, selection of craft beer, and relaxed, but lively atmosphere.

Don’t even consider elsewhere.

Just go here. Join the rustle and the vibe. Sit shoulder to shoulder. Be loud, get full. Be taken care of. You deserve it.

Fettuccini Steak is a complex flavour journey. If you’re looking to try something you’ve never tasted before.

I can’t wait to go back.

One of the best restaurants in Ottawa. The french dishes are so good. The bread and sauce are tasty. Burgers are fine. The pork chop is surprisingly juicy. Most importantly, the prices are reasonable and I think everyone visiting Ottawa must give them a try.
Some say that the service is not good and needs to wait for a long time for the food, but when we visit, the food comes fast and servers are nice people.
No need to wait if reservation is made.

Chez Lucien was recommended by friends, and we’re so glad we took their advice. From the moment we walked in, the welcoming atmosphere set the tone for an excellent dining experience. The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall enjoyment of the evening.

The menu offered a great selection, and we were particularly impressed with the beer choices. The escargot was a standout—perfectly prepared with crispy, fresh bread and just the right amount of cheese. We also tried the salmon sandwich with fries, which was flavorful and well-balanced, as well as their pasta dishes, which did not disappoint.

This visit left us eager to return and explore more of their menu. If you’re looking for a cozy spot with great food and a fantastic ambiance, Chez Lucien is definitely worth a visit!
