Former gas station is now a bustling Southern BBQ joint serving oak-smoked meat & other specialties.

Experience wise- very well thought out, good theme going throughout the business, ordering was simple and server was helpful with deciding what to get. Food wise- tastes fresh and delicious, well seasoned, cooked perfectly, fried chicken was delicious, brisket was very tasty and moist, sausage was well made but could use some more season as it wasn’t our favorite. Outdoor seating was clean and well taken care of. Inside seating was minimal.

Amazing experience. These folks make great (incredible) BBQ and are so nice, too. Great atmosphere. Pictures of all their awards and magazine articles on the walls – gets you hyped up for the food. And they do not disappoint. It’s actually like, as your eating, you realize this is what other places are trying to achieve. I got the ribs, brisket, Brunswick stew, and hush puppies. The standouts were the stew (absolutely phenomenal), the hotel bbq sauce, and the hush puppies. All around, absolutely amazing experience. I plan to be back.

We were in the area at one of the local resorts this weekend in St. Simons Island. We were looking for a place to eat and asked one of the locals for a recommendation. She pointed us to the plaza we were in and highly recommended we try Southern Soul Barbecue restaurant. Who am I to turn down a great recommendation, so we walked right over and they did not disappoint. Upon entering the restaurant we were immediately greeted with a warm welcome from an older lady behind the cash register. We explained this was our first time in and we tried to narrow down our options to make a decision on what to eat. I believe one of the cooks just so happened to come from the back and we asked what would he recommend. He said he been working at the establishment over 10 years so he knew the food choices well. He said he would the sampler plate with the 2 or 3 meats, and that is what we got. Now to the food. We both got the brisket and ribs. I got the macaroni and Cheese with Seasoned Collard Greens. When I say the food was more than what I could have expected. The BBQ was absolutely amazing, and those sides were the best I’d ever had. The Macaroni and Cheese was homemade, not that Velveta Cheese. They did not skimp out on their sides at all. I HIGHLY Recommend this restaurant to anywho who loves a good barbecue. This restaurant did not disappoint!!!!!

We were super excited to eat here, however four order did not meet our expectations. My husband asked the cashier for lean brisket but received super fat moist brisket with so much fat on it. It was mostly fat and hardly any meat. At the counter the ladies don’t really have good customer service and they never asked how our food was. No customer service!! We’re disappointed after spending $47 on our food.

We went on a Saturday.
I have wanted to try their Flavored wings for sometime.
We got three out of the four flavors offered. Every time we get the wings to go, Maui flavored are sold out.
Describe… Off the charts delicious!
Smoky, tasty, sweet and spicy!! They are meaty and you get alot for your money!

Can’t ask more of a BBQ restaurant. Excellent product, quick ordering, cheerful service, food comes quick, copious portions,(one sandwich feeds two of your are not there to eat big) comfortable place to eat, convenient location, good sauces, Cooler products and great iced tea no blaring music you cannot talk over. Hopefully they can open more of these. Masterful.

Really good food and welcoming service. I had the turkey plate and I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was tender and the vinegar on the side was flavorful. Loved to okra and our son enjoyed the hotdog and fries. Husband said the pulled pork was good. We missed the gift shop but maybe next time. Also forgot to ask what the deal was with the license plates?! Pretty neat decor.

No visit to Saint Simons Island would be complete without a stop here for at least one meal.
Southern Soul is an institution in this town and rightfully so. The food is excellent and plentiful.
The daily special is a chopped pork sandwich, fries and a drink. Only $10. It was more food than we could eat. We got the ‘sweet’ sauce out of a choice of four choices. We noticed that this is the sauce that most of the local ask for.
The walls are covered with magazine articles that have featured this place.
By all means eat here!

Enjoyed our meal and the service was very quick. A lot of people were in and out but we got our meals quickly. The pulled pork with hot sauce was amazing, my ribs were a little disappointing, but the collard greens were excellent. My girlfriend enjoyed the sausage and brisket, the hushpuppies were overdone and dried, but overall the bbq side of it was good. Definitely worth a stop in if you’re around and also check out the merch building.

Decided to grab lunch here while I was shopping on St Simons Island and I must say, it was phenomenal. I had the Soul Sandwich (jumbo pulled pork sandwich) with sweet sauce and hot sauce with a side of BBQ baked beans. I really enjoyed all of it. The staff was friendly, and even though the line was out the door, my wait was not too long. Pricing is on par with what you would expect from this type of restaurant. I think I paid about $20 (that was with a tip). Will be back!
