I tried the chicken fried Mandi – it tasted really good. The Mysore bonda wasn’t fully cooked, but it was still crispy and flavorful. The chicken roll was also good. The punugulu and Irani chai are highly recommended. The ambience is excellent.

I recently visited Desi District Austin on their soft launch and had a mixed dining experience. The restaurant has a nice setup and friendly service, but the food quality varied quite a bit. ️
Veg Burger – Unfortunately, this was disappointing. The patty was not warm, tasted bland, and lacked flavor. The bun was soft and good, but the burger overall didn’t stand out.

Chettinad Chicken – Very good! Excellent flavor, perfectly spiced, and the chicken was tender, fresh, and tasty. Definitely one of the highlights of the meal. ️

Rumali Roti – Soft, thin, and served hot — really nice!
Jilebi – Loved it! Fresh, hot, and crispy — took me back to the days in India.
Vijayawada Boneless Biryani – Not great. It lacked authentic flavor and was oddly sweet instead of spicy.

❌ Cons: The paper plate quality was very poor — it was peeling off (as seen in the image).
✅ Pros: Great Chettinad Chicken, Rumali Roti, and Jilebi.

Overall, a mixed experience — a few dishes were amazing, but others need improvement in taste and presentation.

I tried their Mughali Mutton Mandi and Mutton Juice Mandi both are really good! This is one of the best spot for mandi lovers. But the reason for giving 4star is mainly for service. When there is no other orders, why you guys are taking 30 minutes to give the food for Dinein. You need to give first preference for Dinein. Better you shouldn’t say the time for order, you will say 15-20 minutes and give after 30 minutes.

Last night, We dropped into Desi District. A grocery store and restaurant side-by-side. where you can shop and eat in one go. The ambiance felt lively, with vibrant yellow and white interiors. They also have two-level seating, and we chose the upstairs section for some peaceful dining away from the floating crowd.

Food:
I originally walked in just for groceries but the moment I learned that they serve Rumali Roti (which is very rare to find in Austin), I was instantly excited.

✅Rumali Roti: Soft, perfectly made, and honestly one of the best I’ve had in Austin.

✅Kadhai Paneer: Delicious, rich gravy, well-spiced, and paired perfectly with the roti.

⭐️Jalebi: This was the unexpected star! They were making jalebis for a catering order, and when I asked for a taste, they generously offered me one. It was crispy, not overly sweet and completely reminded me India. A full 10/10 moment.

I haven’t tried their biryani or noodles yet, but based on other reviews, those items seem to be hit-or-miss.

Ambience:
The upstairs seating gave us a calm and relaxed space to enjoy dinner.
The theme is bright, desi and cheerful.

Final Words:
Desi District is a good occasional visit spot, especially if you’re craving Rumali Roti or freshly made jalebi. Not a “visit every weekend” kind of place, but definitely worth trying once or twice.

Update 1/23/26: Desi District is a 5 star restaurant. We just visited the 2nd time and got the Chicken Juicy Mandi with Afghani Sauce! The people and customers were so friendly and helpful as we learned about the yummy food dishes. It was superb! We are a late lunch on Friday so there were no line.

On our first visit, we visited a new coffee shop in a new development on Parmer Lane in Cedar Park and noticed this fun looking new building called the Desi District. Having Indian friends who are like family all our lives, I love the food, culture and people. Wow! It was Sunday afternoon and this place was hoppin!

It is super clean, bright and feels like a modern cafeteria kitchen style restaurant. A buzzing family dining place connected to a grocery store with every kind of natural food for preparing Indian food from scratch. The fresh smell alone was divine! The restaurant serves delicious authentic home cooking with an expansive menu. The wait in line is a bit longer than the usual limited menu fast food Indian restaurants, but well worth it.

Their food is affordable and my wife and I were stuffed for $25. Their is no table service. I asked a few friendly people in line about the differences between Mandi and Biryani. I went with the more spicy Biryani. The curry is served on the side so you can customize the spiceyness. Their food is a 15 out of 10! My wife said it was the best Indian Food she has ever eaten in her entire life. The Chicken Dom Biryani was served in an adorable, decorative disposable round box (not styrofoam) that seemed to be on a majority of tables. It serves two people with more rice than we could eat. When I ordered our food, I gave them my last name, Moore. listened carefully for my name to be called out over the PA system. The person calling my name had a heavy accent and pronounced my name as “Moo”-“Ray”. Sweet, kind and helpful people here. We had so much fun. The owners were on site and very engaged with making sure everything was just right. We watched as they prepared an exquisite item called Doza. Doza is a giant 16″, thin, crispy crepe like recipe prepared on the grill. It has a very small amount of wheat flour, but is mostly made out of lentil flour so it is a possible option for gluten sensitive people. It is rolled up, stuffed with savory mashed potatos or just plain and served with homemade lentil soup and yogurt. Excellent, excellent place! We had a mango yogurt beverage for dessert! We will be back to try the Mandi next time.

Tried this place on its opening day and had a mixed experience with what we ordered. The Veggie Cheese Burger was surprisingly cold and quite bland, which was disappointing. On the positive side, the Rumali Roti and Chettinad Chicken Curry were flavorful and well-prepared — definitely the highlights of the meal. However, the Vijayawada Chicken Biryani was another letdown. It tasted oddly sweet, even though we had asked for medium spice, which threw off the flavor completely.

Overall, the food quality felt inconsistent for an opening day. Hoping they work on maintaining better taste and temperature in the dishes moving forward.

Newly opened Indian restaurant in Cedar park. For the first time in Austin ,I saw Dil pasand,Dil kush, 3 types of Puffs-Veg,Egg and Chicken. Ordered goat mandi, its good taste. There are lot of cake varieties. I have attached the entire list of menu. Irani chai is bit too sweet, could’ve made strong flavor. There’s quite a wait time for dine-in and Togo orders.
Would like to visit again. Have a nice dining.

Review on Phone order of Butter Chicken, Chicken Dum Biryani, butter Naan and rumali roti.
The undercooked chicken biryani I ever had. It tasted raw masala. Tasted some and trashed most of it.
Butter naan is burnt and crispy. Looks like there is no quality check on the food.
Rumali roti and butter chicken are okay. Not going back to the restaurant again.

Very disappointing experience. Tandoori momos were overly tangy and tasted like pickles, veg kathi roll bread felt frozen, sambar with the masala dosa was terrible, and jalebi tasted like it was fried in old oil. Not worth it.
