My main critique is more of a suggestion. The Taste of History has the burden to serve many guests so it makes sense to “presauce” and prepare food in bulk for easier service. We still waited 40 mins to get to the front of the line because they made us wait for the fairytale dinner to leave ($61 to $67? Per plate w/ admission included). We purchased many items like biscuits with jam and a pulled pork potato. Temp was fine for the potato but because it was presauced the flavor was left dry and bland. I understand the general audience may prefer bland but those of us expecting “the taste of history” might expect a side of BBQ sauce to turn a bland pulled pork potato into an awesome smokey experience we would pay the same for at any premium BBQ restaurant. The staff was great and offered chili as a sub, I accepted but saved the majority of my dinner for later (great quality ToGo containers) when I could sauce it with some Famous Dave’s “Sweet and Zesty” BBQ sauce. Other items purchased, price, and score:
Pulled pork sandwich (ala cart) – $12.95 – 7/10
Mac&Cheese (side) – $7.95 – 6/10
Biscuits w/ jam – $4.95 4/10
Chili Dog w/ cheese – $10.95? – 7/10
Pulled pork w/ Potato – $10.95 – 5/10
Chili w/ Potato – $10.95 – 7/10
Green Beans / Caramelized onion – $4.95 5/10 only bc Bean were undercooked
Salad Greens w/ peanuts (dinner) – $8.95? 7/10
Hotdog w/ ketchup – $5.95? 9/10
Colossal Chocolate Chunk Cookie – $3.95 – 10/10

I wasn’t sure about the menu options but then I found the Hobo Lunch. I had the turkey sandwich and it was good. It came with apple sauce, gold fish crackers, chocolate chip cookie and either milk or fountain drink. The fountain drinks are locally made. The root beer was yummy. I like the cola flavor but I also don’t drink mainstream sodas.

A great option for a quick meal. We had the BBQ pork potato with a slice of blueberry pie and enjoyed it. Another person said the Mac and Cheese is good. I wanted to try the Cherry chicken salad but didn’t have room for it.

1, I gót change an extra $12.51 gave no clue what is that. Food wasn’t good at all, chicken was undercooked. Tip the waitress good but can’t see why they charged extra $.

Fried chicken was tasty, the Chicken Pot Pie Potato was flavorful and the Hobo lunch in the bandanna was fun for the kids. Definitely a great stop if you are looking for options.

I was blown away by the service received by the staff at a Taste of History. They kept the environment extremely clean and when my partner and I went to throw out our water bottles, the staff recommended we fill them up at the water fountain. So kind! Thank you so much! You saved the day!

If you’re looking for an affordable option with good food and an easy in and out with kids while at Greenfield Village, this is your place! My husband and I both had the pulled pork baked potatoes. They were big and a lot of food for the price (May 2023 they were just under $11). My kids had macaroni and cheese that they split and a fruit cup. They both enjoyed it and it was enough for both of them (granted my youngest is a year old and doesn’t eat a ton). We would definitely choose this again over the food trucks or the other restaurant (it looked neat but was a sit down style and prices were much higher).

Food was good. Set up like a cafeteria where you just get some stuff thrown on your tray and pay at the end. Problem was there were about 150 people getting food and one person checking everyone out. Unfortunately we had to wait 20 minutes just to cash out after getting food. Other than that food was good staff, tables were mostly clean. Maybe we just came in on a day when they didn’t have enough cashiers. Some the pop was not working in the machines and the soda drink area was kind of dirty. Also it’s kind of weird that they don’t have trash can so you can throw away your own food. Everyone seemed confused about just leaving their trays and plates on the table and waiting for someone to come clean it up.
