“Absolutely incredible evening at Born & Raised—hands down one of the best steakhouse experiences in San Diego! The food was nothing short of amazing from start to finish. Every dish was perfectly executed, bursting with flavor, and presented beautifully. The dry-aged steaks were tender, juicy, and cooked to absolute perfection, and the sides (those hash browns and uni spaghetti if you tried them!) elevated everything to another level.
A huge thank you to Chef Andres and the entire kitchen team—the creativity and precision in every bite showed real passion and skill. You could tell the heart and expertise that went into crafting such an outstanding meal.
The staff was equally impressive: attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole night feel special and seamless. From the warm welcome to the tableside service touches and spot-on recommendations, they made us feel right at home in such a stunning, upscale spot.
If you’re looking for a memorable dinner with top-tier food, great vibes, and exceptional hospitality, Born & Raised is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back—thank you for an unforgettable night! 5/5 stars all around.”

This is a must try when visiting San Diego. Located just across from Little Italy, Born and Raised is the perfect spot for a date night or celebratory gathering. The outside is modern and deco while inside is a trendy take on a speakeasy. With a fully stocked bar and live view kitchen, you will have a great view no matter where you are seated. The enjoyment goes beyond appearances. Service is top notch. If you have the pleasure of dining with Scott, you will be well versed on pairings and available specials. When the food arrives, you will be pleased with both presentation and taste. As delicious as your meal will be, try to save room for dessert as it’s a must!

Born and Raised was a fantastic experience overall. We had a reservation but couldn’t make it to the rooftop; however, the interior design is beautiful and totally makes up for it. The food was excellent, we ordered the Caesar salad, which was prepared in front of us and tasted amazing, and the steak was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The staff were super friendly, the vibe was chill and cool, and everything felt relaxed yet upscale. Highly recommend it.

Amazing atmosphere and city views from the 2nd floor. The architecture is beautiful and amazing, great vibes. Our waiter was a little cold and should’ve moved to the other side of the table to grab things instead of leaning over several people. The food is just too good, very good beef Wellington, appetizers, side, and delicious desserts. The bar makes incredible cocktails, great job! And the bathrooms are top tier. lol. For real tho.

This is a really solid steakhouse on India St in Little Italy and I would say it’s one of the best designed restaurants in all of San Diego however, Steak 48 has much better steak. I had a great dinner and experience here, but I felt that B&R steaks were underwhelming and lacked a lot of flavor. It also had a peppery and smoky flavor to it, which I didn’t like as much as an original char or a buttery flavor. I say this as someone that gets steak out often, from San Diego, but have been living in LA the last 6 years, so I’ve been spoiled by the options. I felt the best part of this dinner was the design of the restaurant and just the vibes, but the food was not the best of the three dinners I had while visiting town, which is disappointing given how expensive this restaurant is.

Parking in this part of town is extremely difficult so the best option would be valet across the street for $18 or a pay lot. The hostess when we entered was not very polite or welcoming however, our waitress was extremely polite and accommodating. We sat upstairs at one of the circular tables facing out towards San Diego and had beautiful views of the downtown. We loved the ambience, and that truly was the best part of the meal.

We started off with the French Onion Soup and thought that was really great. It was made with red onions, which was a different twist and was well balanced in flavor. Next we ordered a special which was the Iberico Ham and asked to be expected that was great. I have been to Spain quite a few times and it really reminded me of what I had while visiting there. Next came to Steak Tartare, which I enjoyed, however, I thought it was more of a four out of five. I appreciated the mustard flavor component, but I just felt it lacked really deep flavors. For my entree I chose the Bone-In Ribeye which was 20 ounces and was honestly pretty good but not that great. It really lacked a lot of flavor to be honest. I was really surprised at how little flavor it had. There was also a smoky component to it, which I did not really enjoy. The size was great but for the price they are asking I felt it could’ve been a lot better, with less fat on it too.

Overall, a nice option especially for a date. It would be a place to bring an out of towner, or IG aficionado, or something along those lines. For the best steak or a really upscale work dinner option I would choose Stake 48 in Del Mar or possibly Cowboy Star in East Village now that Del Frisco’s left.

Born and Raised has excellent food – every dish we tried was phenomenal, and it features inventive desserts with fun flavors. You really can’t go wrong in ordering. Personal favourites from our dinner included the Japanese A5, the pear cheesecake, broccolini and the polenta that comes with the meatball appetizer.

The servers were incredibly professional and made it a great experience.

The only downside is that the ambiance can be very hit or miss. The dim, moody lighting is great, but the restaurant can be very loud. They also wouldn’t seat us until everyone had arrived, which while I understand in theory, with a party of about ten people there was nowhere adequate to wait. The menus are also huge and we didn’t really have anywhere on the table to set them down between the glasses and lamps. All small things, but at such an expensive meal, they make a difference.

Born and Raised in San Diego is absolutely stunning. The interior is beautiful and the atmosphere is top-tier. We ordered the Tomahawk steak and it was phenomenal, hands down one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Highly recommend for a special night out!

The bone marrow with snails and the dirty hashbrowns were absolutely amazing. We also had the steak sampler and the Mac&cheese and both were great. Service (Mauricio) was excellent, all on point. We didn’t care for the baked Alaska, we could have left without it. Atmosphere was also great, not too loud. We easily could keep a conversation going. We were celebrating our birthdays and everything was just perfect!!!

I wasn’t born and raised in San Diego; however, I have lived in San Diego since 2000. I’ve been to many restaurants in SD but hands down, please, Born and Raised is clearly the best restaurant quietly waiting for you explore. This was our first time to visit; we celebrated my husband’s birthday. The moment you walk in the ambience and design set the vibe for you – its classy, more covert, than cocky. We waited less than 15 minutes to be seated (btw it was a Friday and the downstair bar was packed!) We were led upstairs where another bar was full, and our table was perfect. We had a view of Little Italy. We ordered drinks and Art, our server was knowledgeable, charming a good listener. I order a drink, not on the menu, and they delivered! My husband ordered the Whiskey Smash, I asked for a Rosemary Gimlet, and it was perfect! Dinner was delicious. My husband ordered the pork chop, and I ordered the lamb. The portion size of the food and the drinks were generous. Surprisingly the drinkware was actually full size and not the common, small ,4 oz glasses you find at other restaurants. We ordered a second round of drinks and when it came time for the dessert, Born and Raised elevated their status in my opinion! A birthday dessert was a simple macaron and a candle, but it was the third round of drinks what blew us away. We ordered the Espresso Martini with tequila reposado – fantastic and the design on the foam of the drink said Happy Birthday and mine was a design of a rose! These artistic touches made our night! Our server and those circulating around were so attentive and yet, not overbearing. Considered this restaurant to be your new sanctuary! Thank you Born and Raised you have elevated the dinning experience!! We will be back.
