We came in as walk-ins and the staff were so nice and accommodating, getting us a table right away. The atmosphere is amazing-you have to see the thousands of hats on the ceiling, it’s such a unique vibe!

The food was 10/10. My steak was cooked perfectly, and the desserts were lovely and fresh. To top it off, the pints were spot on. A brilliant spot in Ashbourne with top-class service. Highly recommend!

I don’t think I can recommend this place enough. Food is simple and absolutely delicious. Great choice as well for all preferences. Staff is lovely and the whole place feels like home. My only regret is I waited so long to pay a visit

Went for lunch here yesterday. From the time we parked until the time we left the service was exceptional
Food all freshly cooked, delicious and great porrion size. All four of us were so happy.
The place was beautifully decorated for Christmas but the Caps/Hats hanging from every inch of the ceiling is a definite talking point, all year round.
Would definitely recommend a visit and all four of us will be back again soon.

After a proper Sunday stomp around Balrath Woods with my girlfriend and the young lad, we rolled into The Snailbox in the sort of condition normally reserved for Arctic explorers. Starving. Windswept. Emotionally prepared to eat the furniture if required.

And then… glory.

The place hits you straight away. Hats everywhere, cheeky little snail statues perched by the fireplace like they own the joint, and the whole pub buzzing with families demolishing plates of food with Olympic commitment. Electric is the only word for it. You can practically taste the anticipation in the air.

We kicked off with seafood chowder and garlic mushrooms. Now listen. This chowder wasn’t soup. It was a creamy, ocean-loaded declaration of intent. Thick, rich, steaming like a V8 engine on a cold morning, packed with seafood that tasted like it had signed off on the whole operation personally. The mushrooms arrived glistening in garlic butter, begging to be mopped up with bread like edible treasure. Civilisation peaked in that moment.

The young lad received his burger and chips and attacked it with the focus of a lion that hadn’t eaten since Tuesday. Juices running, chips crisp and golden, the whole thing disappearing at a rate that suggests we may need to consider a second mortgage once he’s a teenager.

For mains we shared the seafood hot pot and a beef curry. The hot pot was essentially chowder’s big, brawny cousin. A bubbling cauldron of creamy seafood excess that wrapped around your soul like a heated blanket. If you’re not hungry, be warned. This thing does not negotiate. It fills you to the point where walking becomes theoretical. The curry, meanwhile, was rich, warming, and deeply satisfying. The sort of dish that makes you pause mid-bite just to appreciate the fact you’re alive.

Service? Flawless. Staff moving with the precision of a pit crew, plates landing exactly when they should, smiles intact, chaos expertly disguised as choreography.

Everything about the meal screamed proper pub grub done right. Hearty. Generous. Unapologetically delicious.

Verdict: absolutely worth the drive. We left full, happy, and slightly stunned, like survivors of a very pleasant food ambush. And frankly, I’d do it all again tomorrow.

Luckily we found this place.
We just drove through Ireland to our destination when the hunger hit us. Soon after we found this nice local. The view outside is just awesome and when you enter the building it doesn’t stop. It’s really a one of a kind experience. We can just recommend it.
It’s lovely decorated and all the employees are so nice and friendly.

We also really loved the food and enjoyed our stay here. We will return at some point.

I’ve been coming here regularly, and the experience is always top-notch. The food is consistently delicious and never misses, and the staff truly goes above and beyond. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and makes you feel right at home. It’s rare to find a place that’s this reliable in both food and service. Easily one of my favorite restaurants.

This place is absolutely wonderful, offering exceptionally tasty food and a warm, friendly staff. The dishes we tried were really fantastic, exceeding our expectations in both flavor and presentation. I am certain I will be back many times in the future to enjoy more of their delightful cuisine.
P.S.: They also have an impressive collection of caps, which adds a unique and interesting touch to the ambiance.(first 4 photos)

Once again, I’m thrilled with my experience here! The food was, as always, absolutely delicious, and the staff made us feel so welcome. Every dish we tried this time was a delight—both in taste and presentation—and it’s clear they take great pride in what they do. I also enjoyed seeing the cap collection again; it really adds to the charm of this wonderful spot. Thank you for another fantastic experience. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

HATS OFF

This is a FANTASTIC place for a casual family dinner!!

Stopped in here late one evening after a U10 soccer game. The manager couldn’t have been nicer to my son, so friendly, asked him loads of questions about the game, gave him a nickname

The amazing staff continued through the meal, advising on what to have, checking in on the meal and being just perfectly attentive.

I have incredibly high standards for service. This place has exceeded expectations. On top of that all 3 of us loved the meals.

Arrancini and wings… The peri peri sauce home made and excellent

Kids burger and fries, perfect

Chicken curry rice and chips also absolutely excellent

68euro for kids meal (drink+main+desert) 2 x starters, 1 main

One beer one coke zero

Can’t wait to return
