Exquisite ! Second time visiting. Service from entry to exit is flawless. Philippe greeted us with a big smile and gave us a table in a cozy corner of the restaurant. Our server Emilie was professional and friendly. We had oysters, French onion soup and the Porterhouse with sides. The steak was one of the best I had in a long time ! We shared a bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape from La Fiole du Pape Pere Anselme, which matched the steak very well. We even got a box of complimentary cookies at the end. While this restaurant is in the Old Town area, I highly recommend if you are new to Montreal as a safe bet for high quality dining.

We went out for our anniversary dinner, and wow — it did not disappoint! The food was amazing. We started with some fried calamari, which was super crispy and tasty. My boyfriend got the steak platter for two, and I had the veggie burger — both were so good we finished everything in minutes. Such a perfect spot for a special night!

A bit of a late review but about 3 weeks ago, I walked in as a solo diner and left as if I came with friends! Valter is a one of a kind server and I wish him eternal joy and happiness in his life. His high intellect and charisma really brings a certain charm to dinner that rarely occurs on solo nights out. I expressed my desire to order in French and practice with him and he actually let me! He was patient with me as both a customer and a student of the French language. Granted it wasn’t busy either but it still means something when your meal doesn’t feel transactional or rushed as some places had made me feel (especially with my limited French). I will definitely be coming back on my next visit to Montreal for another pleasant experience at this restaurant. I had the dumplings, the short ribs, the side salad (not pictured) , one of the desserts that had icecream in shortbread(? I think) and a glass of wine. Also the bread is FAB!!! The place is pricey but I would still recommend it for my above budget/treatyoself girlies and would definitely had split all of these if I had a friend with me (I was eating with my eyes when I ordered). Can’t wait to come back !!

One of My Best Dining Experiences This Year so Far.

I visited Méchant Boeuf for a farewell dinner on my last night in Montreal, and it was nothing short of exceptional.
I arrived about 10 minutes before my host, who had made the reservation. The hostess greeted me with a warm smile, was incredibly friendly, and seated me right away, a lovely welcome to what would become a memorable evening.
The atmosphere struck a perfect balance between elegant and cozy, ideal for fine dining but still inviting and relaxed. The space was beautifully designed, and it’s easy to see why both tourists and locals return time and again. My hosts have dined here often and always had great things to say.
We started with the fried calamari, which was crisp, perfectly seasoned, and full of flavor, a great opener. For the main course, our group shared the largest tomahawk steak on the menu. It came with generous sides and was cooked to a flawless medium rare. Juicy, tender, and flavorfu, it needed no extra seasoning at all. Easily the best steak I’ve had in quite some time.
Our meal was perfectly complemented by a wine recommended by our attentive and knowledgeable waiter, Simon. He gave us an excellent breakdown of the beef selection process and cooking techniques and helped us find the ideal wine pairing for our meal.
Although we didn’t order dessert, we were pleasantly surprised with two boxes of bite-sized sweets to share, a thoughtful touch that ended the night on a high note.
This was easily one of my best restaurant experiences of the year. I highly recommend Méchant Boeuf and would absolutely return. Reservations are recommended!

Went here for my birthday, and unfortunately it confirmed my suspicion that it’s more of a tourist trap than a real steakhouse. Drinks were almost $20 for something basic, which already felt overpriced. I ordered the ribs ($42) and they were completely bland—the most flavorless ribs I’ve ever had. Nothing special in the cooking, just a little cheap BBQ sauce brushed on top. Honestly, pretty bad.

My guest ordered the burger, and they said the same thing: no flavor at all, the patty was bland and forgettable. For a place that presents itself as a trendy steakhouse, you’d expect way better food quality.

The only reason I’m giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the service. Even though the restaurant was full, we got our food and drinks quickly, and the staff were attentive.

Overall though, not worth it. Just another Old Port spot dressed up as a “fancy” restaurant, but really just cashing in on the location. Wouldn’t go back.

We were a party of 6, late reservation so sat in high top but were comfortable. Service was genial and timely, food was superb, wine list extensive. We shared appetizers: Greek salad, pork dumplings, poutine and shrimp…plenty for all of us to enjoy. Entrees were a variety from fillet salmon, short ribs and scallops..all were extremely tasty, flavorful (no additional spices needed)…all steaks came with roasted vegetables. For dessert we shared the key lime pie..yummy.
Sarah R was our server…she was extremely attentive. Least I forget cocktail and bar menu also healthy…had a spicy margarita and a martini with two bottles of red: they offered full selections of red and white from France, Italy and others.
Overall great experience…when we return to Montreal will be on our dining list again.

Best meal I have had in my life, with the person most special to me.

The highlight of our trip to Montreal.

Everything was better than expected, but the Calimari… Mind bendingly excellent, miles ahead of anything I have ever had.

Go there. Go today, go yesterday.

Can’t wait to return.

Completely fantastic experience in every way.

Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen.
