Reviews
If you’re looking to indulge, start with the jaw-dropping Seafood Tower for Two—a seafood lover’s dream come true! Every bite, from the East & West Coast Oysters to the Hamachi Sashimi, is perfectly paired with flavorful sauces that elevate the experience.
The Calamari Fritti is crispy, zesty perfection, and the entrees? Pure decadence! The Mermaid Surf & Turf and Prime Rib are absolute must-tries, and the Shrimp Scampi is a rich, garlicky delight.
You can’t skip the desserts! The Chocolate Cake is a chocoholic’s paradise, and the Pineapple Cake with rum caramel sauce is a tropical escape on a plate. Pair it all with their signature Mermaid’s Brewcocktail, and you’re in heaven.
Salt Water Social is the perfect place to celebrate in style. Highly recommend gathering your loved ones and planning a special occasion at this amazing restaurant.
Food was okay, I would not recommend yellowtail crispy rice as a starter (rice was gummy) but I would recommend roasted scallops as an entree. Honestly, there are other places that have better tasting/quality food for better/similar prices.
The place was really crowded. It was very cramped where we got seated. We could hear clearly the conversation from tables to the left and right of us.
Overall, for me, it was a good place to check out once and not want to go back.
Everything we ordered was fresh, delicious and perfectly cooked. We will definitely be returning to try the rest of the menu.
Definitely make a reservation because it is a very popular spot. It was a bit loud because it was so full, but that just goes to show how popular it really is.
We started the night with a couple glasses of LaMarca and Elouan, which paired perfectly with our appetizers. The seafood tower was a showstopper – super fresh, beautifully presented, and absolutely worth ordering. The Calamari Fritti and Otoro Sashimi were also standouts. The calamari was crispy without being greasy, and the Otoro melted in your mouth.
For entrées, we tried a little bit of everything. The shrimp scampi linguine was rich and garlicky in the best way, while the fish and chips were light, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. The Ahi Tuna was cooked exactly right, and the 10oz Delmonico steak ended up being one of the best surprises of the night! It was incredibly tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The lobster Thermidor also deserves a shout out for being decadent without feeling overly heavy. We added a couple of sides; the Yukon mash and stir-fry veggies that were both great additions.
Even though we were stuffed, we couldn’t skip dessert! The pineapple cake was bright and refreshing, and the chocolate cake was rich and indulgent.
Overall, Salt Water Social impressed us from start to finish! From the seafood to the steak and dessert, everything delivered! Definitely a spot we’ll be returning to.
Food quality issues were also prevalent. A significant concern was the discovery of foreign material (a hair) in one of the pasta dishes. Furthermore, the mac and cheese arrived cold; while the kitchen did rectify this upon being notified, the initial presentation was unacceptable. The cumulative impact of these issues, including perceived under-management and a concern that members of diverse backgrounds (specifically, Hispanic individuals) may not have felt welcomed, culminated in a profoundly negative dining experience. Given these circumstances, this establishment is not recommended. It is imperative that management address operational deficiencies and customer service standards to prevent a recurrence of such grievances. This was regrettably our worst Thanksgiving dining event.
Food:
Fried Calamari 4/5 – One of the better things we had. Cooked and flavored nicely.
Shrimp Cocktail 2/5 – It only comes with two on a WAY oversized dish, and cocktail sauce was mediocre.
Lobster Bisque 1/5 – MINISCULE amount of lobster [one tiny piece] and if I closed my eyes I swear the bisque was just reheated KFC gravy.
Oysters 3/5 – Not the best I’ve tasted in Colorado, little flavor, thank goodness for the side sauces.
Salmon Wellington 3.5/5 – Good flavor, cooked decently, nothing to write home about.
Pineapple Upside-down Cake 4/5 – This would have gotten a 5 but the pineapple slice had that distinctive canned flavor to it.
Service:
The service was decent, not super welcoming though. When I ordered my oysters for the main meal there was a bit of judgmental attitude given from the server. It also took a long time between courses. I think it took us about 15/20 minutes to receive our dessert. We also weren’t even offered bread during our whole experience. For an establishment of the caliber they claim, I would expect some type of complimentary palette cleanser, so to speak. We were given 2 shots for my birthday made with horrible bottom-shelf tequila. I would have rather gotten the dessert comped.
Atmosphere:
It seems a bit confused with the type of music played compared to the decor. Trying to be chic and upscale but also a little club feel? The inside is nice but doesn’t seem to have a solid identity.
I hate to say it wasn’t a great experience, but for the price we paid (even ordering happy hour items) it just wasn’t worth it, unfortunately. I was hoping for way better. If you want a really nice restaurant for a special occasion there are many other places to choose from in Denver.
We came in on time for a 7pm reservation, we waited about a half hour then was asked by the nice lady at the front if we wanted a smaller 4 person table that was seated in the busiest walkway near the bar we said no thanks as we had 5 people. She agreed and figured we wouldn’t since we had 3 people older than the age of 60 that would be too loud and probably uncomfortable for them. 5 min later they tried sitting us there anyways to which we said we already spoke with the other lady that it wouldn’t be a great fit to which the person seating us started to have an attitude but none the less we remained cool and said if we could wait for the booth as we have old people. We then waited another 20 min to which they then tried seating us at the exact same table and we replied again no they already said they have another booth waiting for us(a nicer gentlemen with glasses and a sport jacket) thank you for that remedy and being nice because your one host has no business being in hospitality with the attitude they had I explained it three times with them and still made an issue. Again it’s new years we shrugged it off and just chalked it up to being chaotic, because we finally got a nice booth about an hour after our reservation.
I’ll start by saying at least our waitress was nice. We then ordered food two people got the French onion, two others got a salad and I myself got the king crab fondue special they had for new year. WHAT a JOKE. The French onion soup was sweet? And odd tasting. The salads were good but hard to mess that up, but the almost 70$ crab fondue looked like a puddle of soup with maybe a quarter of a king crab. Absolute rip off and it tasted boring and slopped together. We then all got main meals, braised beef with mashed potatoes was hard and chewy and overcooked didn’t fall apart at all how it should, the steak NY strip was so salty it upset my stomach and just had no other flavor(at least my lobster was ok) . The rack of lamb was disgusting, no flavor, chewy and overcooked. The scallops were not flavorful at all. Skirt steak was the thickness of jerky….roasted red potatoes were black and charred. Drinks were all disgusting(my dirty martini was just olive juice and no alcohol) but again we chalked it up to new years and being busy so the bartenders were just overworked maybe? But the food was disfusring, you’re not Miami, LA, or Chicago fine dining….not even close. The entire menu or chefs need to be revamped that was awful.
And let’s not even get started on the atmosphere, bumping loud house music to hardly hear your party was the over top and ruined that as well, it’s not a club(hopefully again this isn’t normal just a new years theme). This place is a fraud trying to look like they are a high end Miami/LA seafood steakhouse. Overpriced, terrible tasting, rude, and loud. If you wanna feel like you’re at a outdated club, sure by all means go but the food won’t taste good. Hopefully it was an off day being new years and busy, but judging by the yelp reviews this is normal…..
