The fried catfish, cabbage, and collard greens are so good that I got it twice! They welcomed me and my service dog promptly when we entered. The red velvet cake was a huge portion and the cream cheese icing was on point! I look forward to coming back again the next time I’m in Huntsville.

Aug 2025: I went again in January and then a couple of times in April / May. I ordered different things, and I cannot put my finger on it but something is not right with the food. When I went either it was too much seasoning or not enough on the sides. I am not sure what changed but there has definitely been a change. The catfish is still good but until they get the sides together…I stopped going.
I visited twice before writing this review. I also previously frequented both G’s and Sac’s Kitchen. I will say this place is the best of the three!!!
What I loved… the catfish it is the best ever the outside is crispy the inside is soft and tender) absolute perfection, yams are just right, couple it with the cabbage and the cornbread. Then finish it off with red velvet cake or peach cobbler you cannot go wrong.
Pardon my pictures, I went on two different days. The first time I went, I had catfish, yams, and greens. I was really hungry by the time I made it home, and I started eating before I took the pics. So that is not how your food comes for the fish plate.
What I liked was the chicken and dressing (it was a little salty but still edible). I had dressing at other places, and it just was not right. The flavor profile here is the closest I have found to my homemade dressing. The chicken was tender falling off the bone, and it was good. The greens were okay, but I prefer the cabbage.
The things I tried but will not order again…the menu says banana pudding but I noticed the young lady wrote down cookies…so I am guessing it should be cookies with banana pudding drizzle or something but it was not banana pudding.
I like baked mac n cheese, so this type is not my jam.
Overall, this is my go-to Soul Food place. The food is good, the people are nice, did I mention the food is good? The icing on the cake is for the price you pay for your meal, it also includes a drink and dessert.
You have to come check out Bettie Maes!!!

I came into town for an interview. I asked the company where to go for the best soul food, and I was directed here. The owner was an absolute wonderful lady. She was kind and patient with my questions. The food…did not disappoint..the deep fried chops, chicken, greens and Mac n cheese was incredible. When in Huntsville, go get whatever she makes

This was my first visit to Betty Mae’s and it was a pleasant experience! The restaurant was clean, the customer service was good and the wait wasn’t long at all! You definitely have to come early if you want certain items though. They were out of pound cake and meatloaf. The chicken was fried and seasoned to perfection and the banana pudding and sweet potato pie were delicious! The only complaint that I have is that my black eyed peas were a bit salty and cold. I’d definitely dine here again!

Might be the best plate of food in North Alabama. No notes. Just perfect. They support this community, too. Good people!

Looking for some good soul food and this was definitely the place. Food seasoned exceptionally well. Super busy when they opened at 11:00a on Sunday morning. They were out a bunch of stuff but what we got was really good! I highly recommend you check them out!

Not Betty Maes of old. Out of food (seriously, how do you run out of food 1 1/2 hours after you opened), small portions, very long wait. Go to G’s, they have good portions, friendly service and plenty of food. Avoid Betty Maes, not worth the aggravation. Won’t ever be back. Look forward to trying whatever restaurant fills the space when they close.

I hesitantly ordered the neckbones since it is something I have never eaten before. Betty Maes did not disappoint…the portion was huge, they had a great flavor and fell off the bone. Also got the peach cobbler yummmmmmy. Very friendly staff & definitely worth a visit!

I visited today with my sister and our Mom. The food was absolutely delicious! Huge portions and the best black eyed peas I’ve ever had. I also had meatloaf which was great. The staff were all very friendly. We will definitely be going back.
