I consider this restaurant to be the perfect spot for Italian food if you’re near Times Square or heading to a Broadway show. From the moment we arrived, the experience was excellent. The host was extremely friendly, and we really appreciated hearing the backstory about the restaurant, its origins, and the family that owns it, it added such a personal touch.

All of the staff was absolutely fantastic and very knowledgeable about the menu. Our server made excellent recommendations, and everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed both the food and drinks. One staff member even offered us complimentary shots at the end of the meal, which was such a fun and unexpected gesture.

The complimentary bread service was incredible, easily some of the best bread I’ve had in New York. You can truly tell that the pasta is freshly made and that high-quality ingredients are used throughout the menu. Another big plus was how quickly the food came out, which is especially important if you’re trying to make it to a Broadway show on time.

The atmosphere was intimate and welcoming, making you feel right at home. We really enjoyed our time here and would absolutely come back to try more dishes. Highly recommend.

I rarely write reviews, but this one feels important.

My partner surprised me with Valentine’s Day dinner at Sicily on Restaurant Row. I live close to restaurant and have been in Hell’s Kitchen for over 15 years, so I was excited to finally try it. Valentine’s Day — especially with a prix fixe menu — is a restaurant’s opportunity to shine and potentially win over new (and local) customers.

Unfortunately, the $75 per person prix fixe menu was underwhelming.

My partner’s sea bass was not well prepared and was served with raw carrots; he didn’t even finish his meal. I received three very small, crunchy zucchini roll-ups and four heart-shaped ravioli — visually cute, but the portion didn’t justify the price.

We should have taken pause when the server informed us there was only one dessert option — and that we would be sharing it. For a Valentine’s dinner at that price point, that was surprising.

Ironically, the best part of the meal was the the bread! I walked passed the restaurant on my morning walk with my dog and reviewed the menu to make sure sure I was not missing something.

I understand prix fixe menus come with limitations, especially in a high-traffic area near Times Square. But Sicily has the advantage of not only tourists — there are loyal locals here too. This felt like a missed opportunity to impress the neighborhood.

I truly wanted to love it, which makes this review disappointing to write.

Great pre-theater restaurant. Attentive staff didn’t rush us while also serving us in a timely way to get to the play on time. Two of us had the restaurant week specials, and one had a regular meal. The shrimp scampi was fabulous, as was the eggplant rollotini appetizer. (I would’ve been happy just sopping up the vodka sauce!) Loved the mini olive oil can for the bread. And the desserts were delicious! The minestrone in a bread bowl was the only disappointment: it had zucchini, onions, and carrots….no beans or pasta so I’m not sure how minestrone was defined.

We stopped in for dinner before our show, and they’re clearly well-prepared for pre-theater crowds. Most guests were also heading to performances, and our server made sure we stayed perfectly on schedule. We went with the $45 Restaurant Week menu. The tuna carpaccio was quite bland and lacked flavor, but the meatballs were solid. The short ribs were missing some juiciness and seasoning, while the lasagna was enjoyable. Desserts were excellent, and the $25 bottle specials for Restaurant Week were a nice touch. Overall, it worked well as a pre-show spot.

The pasta dishes are very unique. The potato croce were good but they needed something acidic. The pesto didn’t do it. The arancino (note it’s not plural as it usually is seen) was tasty enough and big for being 1 bell shaped rice ball. The spaghetti chittara had a decent amount of crab meat and am interesting combination of textures: cream sauce, flaky crab, spaghetti noodle, and crunchy pistachio. The casarecce sauce was delicious and very meaty. The limone sicilia dessert was gorgeous and delicious. It’s very tart, which I like in my lemon dishes. The only disappointment was the pana de casa. We paid for the bread because it looked amazing, but everyone around us got a different complimentary basket of bread. The pana was smaller than expected and very dense and very floral with rosemary. I think I would have preferred the rustic ciabatta everyone else had.

Despite what it says on Google, it’s Best to make a reservation if you’re dining pre-theater. Be aware that the NYC Restaurat Week menu is NOT available from 5-7pm.

The food was very good, though not necessarily Italian, let alone Sicilian. My dinner companion started with the crab cakes. There were two decent sized crab cakes with a corn salad — something I’ve never seen in Italy. Just polenta. The crab cakes were excellent.

I had the grilled octopus which also was a generous portion. It was grilled and simply dressed with olive oil and lemon juice. It was over a salad of wild rice and dried cranberries, again something I’ve never seen in Italy.

For a main course, my companion had the shrimp scampi which was served with broccoli rabe. He had expected linguine or some pasta. The food was delicious and again the portions were generous.

I had the skirt steak with chimichurri sauce and lemon potatoes. Not at all Italian, but delicious and, again great portions. (Though there could have been more chimichurri sauce.)

My companion’s tiramisu was mediocre. It was the pastry chef’s reinvention of tiramisu that included rather crispy ladyfingers on the outside with a paucity of filling.

On the other hand, my Torta Setteveli was a very rich chocolate concoction with chocolate mousse, a cocoa frosting and hazelnuts.

The service was very attentive. The spaces between the tables were filled with waitstaff.

The restaurant was quite noisy. It averaged 79 dB which is considered loud. It was hard to hold a conversation. Most of the noise was from people speaking loudly to be heard. There was some background music you could barely hear.

We absolutely loved our meal at Sicily Osteria! We are politely and professionally greeted the minute we walked into the door. We were seated very promptly as per our reservation time. Our server Roberto was the best! He answered all our questions about the menu respectfully and with a smile. He was very professional and personable. The food was absolutely delicious. We were in awe over the meatball appetizer. The sword fish special was out of this word. We also tremendously enjoyed the chicken parm entree. The fish and chicken were both extremely soft and fresh. Probably the best dinner we ever had in New York City. We ordered the pistachio cheesecake and cappuccino for desert – we were very glad we did because it was a great way to end our meal. The ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant is perfect. Very quant and beautiful. There are a lot of dining options in NYC, but this place is not to be missed.

Visited last week around 5:45 pm. Place was a bit loud from the crowd and background music, but cleared out around 6:30 pmish due to theatre crowd leaving. Food amount and quality was just right for us and we had a good time. Bathrooms down stairs with individual rooms and shared wash area outside with towel attendant.
