I came to this place for a light dinner and was pleasantly surprised.

The California burger is very, very tasty — juicy, well-balanced in flavor, and cooked just right. I also tried the wings, which were just as good. I really liked that the spicy sauce is served separately, so you can adjust the heat level exactly the way you prefer. The onion rings were also well done — crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just the way they should be.

However, there are a few things I didn’t like:
• The glass cups have chipped edges, and when you drink from them you could easily cut your lips — this is quite concerning and should definitely be addressed.
• The waiter kept coming to the table very frequently (almost every 3 minutes), watching us while we were eating and repeatedly asking if we wanted anything else. I understand the intention might be good service or increasing sales, but it felt uncomfortable.
• The prices are quite high. For one burger, one portion of wings, onion rings, and two beers, the total was around $70.

Overall, the food is good, but the experience and value for money could definitely be improved.

Also, regarding cleanliness, a bit more attention should be paid. There is definitely room for improvement in maintaining higher standards.

Another thing — if the staff wants to eat a piece of cake or have a snack, that should be done in the kitchen or in their break area, not next to customers. It was quite unpleasant to have a waiter standing on my left side with a plate and a plastic fork, eating and chewing loudly. That was unprofessional and honestly uncomfortable to experience while dining.

This would significantly improve the overall atmosphere and customer experience.

I love a good ol fashion diner and pappy’s answered the call. Hearty menu, full portions, affordable prices. The chicken fried steak was great, good tenderness with solid gravy. The biscuit was ok, a little on the drier side. The vanilla shake was awesome, and it came the old school way with the cup of extra, always a good call.

I stopped by this restaurant on my way up to SLO and was very satisfied. My server was very friendly and attentive. The chicken fried steak was very good with a side of mashed potatoes and fries. You also get the choice of a soup or salad, so I asked if they could make me a Caesar which was very fresh and tasty (not pictured). I will definitely come back if I find myself in Santa Maria. This is a nice retro diner with very reasonably priced food and I would like to try some other dishes here in the future!

Guys on the CB radio said that this was the best place to eat and that they fed you well. But oh my word, the turkey dinner that came out was enough to feed three people. We usually split a dinner at truck stops because they always feed you well. But this was enough for three people not just two! And it was absolutely delicious! The dinner was $20 and it was enough to feed three! Highly recommend!

Great little diner. Lots of selection on the menu for all tastes. My first time visiting and I tried the Santa Maria Tri-tip sandwich. The roll was grilled very crispy with lots of meat. Great wait til the next time I’m in the area and try something else from the menu.

If you’re looking for burgers and fries or bacon and eggs, the simple basics, then this is a good place. But for the love of god, stay away from the ribs. You won’t be able to chew the disappointment. I wasn’t even able to cut the bones apart with a steak knife. It’s my fault really. I should’ve known that you can’t trust a skill like cooking ribs to a short order grill cook. And believe me, I’m being kind with this review. But absolutely do stop here and eat. Basically a good meal. Just be reasonable with your expectations when you order. It is great as a short order cafe.

I’ve passed by this place many times when I worked in the area about 25 years ago and never stopped in. Well, we’re up here for the rodeo and figured we give it a shot. Remember watching them old TV shows with truckers stopping in at the roadside coffee shop or diner? Well, this is it! Country music playing in the background, conversations all around, good coffee, quick service and seating, polite, dishes clanging, etc. but still comfortable! I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was awesome with a side of hash browns (guacamole extra on the side). The wife ordered two eggs with pancakes and a side if hash browns. DELICIOUS!!! Wife got a coffee and we both had waters. The overall bill was under $50 before tip. Great food, great service, and nice atmosphere for the experience. The food was so good that I even finished the food my wife couldn’t finish. We’ll definitely come back here the next time that we’re in town!

Stopped here to have some breakfast. I had my headphones on prepared for the louder than I care for music. The server asked me a couple of questions and seemed annoyed for repeating herself. I guess she got over it when she realized I could hear, I was just hard of hearing. The music was loud, but not as loud as most other restaurants. The server was nice, checking on me a reasonable number of times. The food was good. I ordered country fried steak, one of my usuals for breakfast. The steak was actual steak and not some factory cut dredged in batter. The eggs were cooked a little more than over medium, but I still had some runny yolk. Nothing special about the toast. I asked for extra butter, and I don’t feel that’s what I was given. I am confident that it was some form of margarine. It was pasty white, almost flavorless and left an oily after sensation. Condiments were on the table. I thought it was special having syrup in random bottles. I would visit this place again if I am in the area. If you are traveling and want good food and a bit of nostalgia, stop in.

I should mention I didn’t bother to look at the full menu as I was told breakfast was the only option, unless you wanted a burger or salad (I think).
