Very few restaurants have the staying power to celebrate even a quarter-century of service, but El Fenix celebrated their Centennial! Founded in 1918, by Mike Martinez, a Mexican immigrant, El Fenix is credited as “The Originator of Tex-Mex Cuisine.” It has been named an “All American Icon” by Nation’s Restaurant News and a must-see dining destination for visitors to North Texas. Acquired by Local Favorite Restaurants™ in 2008, El Fenix was refurbished with freshened interiors and a revamped menu, while maintaining its signature authentic elements.
Branch of a long-running chain serving Tex-Mex staples in a hacienda-style setting.

They opened right at 11am and were among the first to be seated. Our server Juana was very friendly, attentive and helpful.
We got out drinks and chips/ salsa right away. The salsa was very tasty and full of flavor but I wanted a spicier one. Unfortunately they did not have any but compensated well by putting jalapeños in new cups of the salsa.
The food arrived in a decent amount of time. We ordered the Monterey Chicken sandwich and the classic tacos, chicken with soft corn tortillas. The chicken was a little dry. The rice and beans were good.
I would definitely come back but I would try something different. All in all, it was a good experience.
The chips and salsa are great.
The tamales actually have a decent amount of meat. Everything tasted as good as it looked. Service was top notched and very quick.
I ate lunch there today and while they were very busy we were seated quickly. Food and service quality was still five star.
