Would come back again!
I ordered the fish and chips. I enjoyed the chips and the tartar sauce the came with them. The batter for the fish was a bit doughier/greasier than I would have liked but not too bad; just not my favourite.
We had some delicious fresh raw oysters and the Irish steak sandwich. My son had fish and chips.
The bread for the sandwich could have been toasted just a little more but the flavor was delicious.
The batter on the fish was tasty and light.
Overall good stopping spot for a bite to eat.
Nestled right on the marina at The Wharf, Kirwan’s offers one of the most charming waterfront dining experiences in Washington, DC. Its location is unbeatable: just steps from The Anthem concert hall and surrounded by the vibrant Wharf district, it’s the ideal stop for dinner or drinks after a show or a stroll along the pier.
The atmosphere is warm and lively, blending Irish tradition with the energy of DC’s modern waterfront. Live Irish music on weekends fills the space with authentic charm, while three distinct bars provide the perfect setting for anything from a casual pint to a festive night out.
The menu features a thoughtful mix of traditional Irish fare and contemporary dishes, all made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. My wife was delighted with her fresh salmon salad, while I truly enjoyed their signature Irish burger — both dishes exceeded our expectations. Pair your meal with a pint of Guinness or one of their craft beer selections for the full experience.
Service is excellent — attentive staff and even the manager personally checking in to ensure everything was perfect. Since opening in October 2017, Kirwan’s has carried forward the spirit of the Irish community that once thrived in this area, creating what they call “your Irish home away from home.”
Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Kirwan’s on the Wharf is more than a restaurant — it’s a destination that combines food, culture, and hospitality with one of the best views in the city.
We often come to DC for family when we visit from central Pennsylvania, and this was our first time here. Everything was delicious and the burger was perfect.
10/10
Visited from out of town and chose to go here on a Thursday night for dinner. It was surprisingly busy, but we got seated quickly. Wait staff was great and we had some delicious food. I ordered the Shepherd’ pie and I was filling! The lamb was really delicious. My friend ordered the fish and chips, and it was probably the heartiest serving I’ve seen at a restaurant. Very fresh and super flaky.
