Chips are a must. Modern Mexico vibes, awesome bar. El Charritos is a great downtown spot. Salsa is perfect. Great food on multiple occasions.

The food was amazing the service was excellent atmosphere was great love the new restaurant took my dad up there for his 70th birthday party we had a wonderful time. We had to wait an hour for the table but that was only because we showed up at 6:00 on a Saturday and there was already a large 10 person party there ahead of us. The wait did not bother us one bit the drinks were excellent and reasonably priced and we all had a very good time. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves Mexican food

Food was delicious! Butttt I’ll never return because of the extra charges. Sour cream… for a tiny container was over $1. Crazy! Then chips and salsa were almost $7.
Nah! Most Mexican has free chips and salsa. Will go elsewhere.

After having tried the new El Cozumel, then the new El Charritos, El Cozumel wins.
El Charritos left much to be desired.
-The menu was confusing. Street Tacos were pictured on the front of the menu but weren’t listed until the middle of the back page.
-We got free salsa, but the chips were not free (odd, right?)
-No drink napkins were provided.
-We arrived as soon as the restaurant opened, yet a pile of salt was sitting on our table when we were seated. Please clean the tables before opening.
-The lighting was dim on the south side of the dining room. Pendants over the tables would’ve solved this.
-Food was overpriced and underwhelming. The taquitos were made with canned chicken. No sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, beans or rice were included with this $17 meal.
Overall, there are many improvements needed before I will choose El Charritos over it’s local competitor.

I was searching for a new / different Mexican restaurant and tried El Charrito’s. Not familiar with the restaurant we tried their dinner for two which comes with a variety of some of everything , and half a basket of chips. The chips ended up being the best thing they served . Everything was barley warm when served, the steak fajitas were tuff as leather , the chicken was dry , the stew meat was overly salted , and it was all mediocre at best . Service was fair at best and extremely slow, our dinners apparently sat a long time before they were served. And they really try to pad the bill , it was the first time we ever had fajitas served with out chese or sour cream , and everything is an upcharge if you want it. Our dinner came with a half basket of chips , if you want the other half there is an upcharge …. really !! This certainly wasn’t the worst dining experience we have ever had , but it was certainly less than average . And if we just happened to be a bad night , I don’t think it can improve enough on a good night to get us to ever try it again.

Great restaurant. I highly recommend the dry beef and bean burrito with lettuce tomato and onion so good with the stewed beef! Only thing I think could be improved is too much salt is on the food. For example the bean burritos have an INSANE amount of salt. Same for the salsa. I know salty food is the trademark of Genesee county but I believe by backing down on the salt content, preferably using sea salt which add minerals to the body instead of table salt which take minerals out of the body, would get you closer to the ratings you’re looking for and would be much healthier and tastier.

Atmosphere was good, but food was just not good at all. See plenty of the reviews saying the exact same thing.
Only thing we requested was no onions and was hard to find something they could make without onions which is odd unless it’s prepackaged. Got the chicken chimmie and a side of rice.. Ate about half of it. Don’t want to just complain but it was literally canned chicken in a tortilla with no seasoning. And the rice…lol full of onions go figure. Didn’t eat the rice but pretty sure it was just uncle bens rice with onions added. The chips not being free was a bit shocking, since they put a bowl of salsa down then came back and asked if we wanted chips and then charged us for them, while every other Mexican restaurant offers them for free. But after all that, it was a small amount of stuff that we got and bill was near $50. Quite excessive to be honest. And for the first time after leaving a restaurant we both actually have stomach aches by the time we got home. We gave it a shot, by far not worth it with other options in town. Maybe other people will like it.

I showed up with friends last Friday. Walked in and the place was less than half full. Receptionist said it would be a 45 minute wait until a table large enough for our party of 6 could be seated. The place was full of empty tables and chairs. There was plenty of room to put two tables together. “Are the tables bolted to the floor?” I asked. “No but we cannot move tables”. We took our business elsewhere. Spent over $200 at a nice alternative. Guess El Charito’s doesn’t care about business.
