This is a tough review for me because even though the food is mostly terrible, I recommend you visit the Elgin Hotel and the Chef’s Plate at Parlour 1886. The hotel is stunning. It’s beautifully restored and is a great reminder of how luxurious hotels once were. The only issue was the food.
I was with a group of fifteen people who ordered every appetizer and pretty much every entre as well. You would think that with that kind of sample size that someone would have had something good to say. I didn’t hear anything. The big issue for me was my order. I ordered a pork chop and received a slice of ham. I wasn’t told when ordering that I would receive ham instead but members of the group did say that the staff had let them know about the change the day before. I know it can be tough to run a hotel and keep a good menu; especially when you are in an isolated part of Kansas. But as bad as the food was, I would go back. The Chef’s plate is preserving a great history. And much like history, it’s not always perfect but should be remembered. The appetizers and drinks were great and I heard only positive things about the beers on tap.
I will definitely return. The drive through the Flint Hills was beautiful and seeing a hotel that let’s you visit a time in the past is an experience everyone should have.

Was leery with some of the bad reviews, completely false it seems. One person working her backside off at the desk, serving, and taking orders. Food was excellent, appetizers were fresh prepared stuffed mushrooms with white wine cream sauce and a superb artichoke dip with fresh parmesan and cream. Main courses were amazing, prime rib was perfect med. rare smoked with an excellently seasoned bark and fresh horse radish sauce with its own delicate seasoning. Salmon was well prepared and upon checking found it to be pacific caught and flash froze in salt water to preserve the flavor. Dessert was fresh prepared carrot cake with a delectable caramel and cream cheese frosting, Cheesecake is seasonal by flavors so we tried the cookies and cream, both excellently prepared. The only thing I recommend is to get the vanilla ice cream with the death by chocolate brownie, dark cocoa flavor that was VERY powerful, delicious but needed something to balance it with. Overall it is a pleasant surprise to find such a wonderful place to eat in the middle of Kansas. I do recommend making reservations as the restaurant is not large and space went quickly, we arrived at 5 PM and within 45 minutes there were no seats available.

The smoked prime rib and sides were amazing!! Love the atmosphere and the waitstaff was on point. Also, make sure you get dessert-there’s no wrong choice on which you get!! Carrot cake is delicious, as well as the death by chocolate!!

I stopped in here back in early July while on my road trip heading west. This was my first time in the state, I was recommended by those who make the drive from east to west to blow through Kansas, but I wanted to check it out and Marion was where we ended up stopping that night. Walked into Parlour 1886 and was very pleased! I the atmosphere was amazing, our waitress and what seemed to be a manager walking around were so sweet and we had great conversation about the hotel and the town itself. I got the chicken cutlet sandwich and it was 10/10! I can’t wait to stop off in Marion again the next time I’m headed that way!

The food is amazing here and worth every penny. I am pretty sure everything is made from scratch including their dressings and desserts. You also get large portions so make sure you come with an empty belly and a large appetite. I definitely recommend for a special trip or dinner.

Kari was acting as host, server, and chef when my husband and I dined in this weekend. She was so sweet, had great recommendations, and the food was probably the best I’ve had in a LONG time! That seafood scampi is to die for, and not something you can find around here often. My husband’s steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked exactly how a medium rare steak should be. Please support this local business as we are so very lucky to have it in our little town!

This was our first time at The Parlour and the pork chops and tilapia were amazing!! The atmosphere was great and the waitress was very pleasant and helpful. The chef brought out the food and made sure everything was perfectly served. We would highly recommend this restaurant!!! And you absolutely have to top it off with the dessert “death by chocolate cake”!!!!!

This would be zero stars but I am giving a couple stars for service and decor… but the food was not good. I tried to like it, the pita chips were fried to order but dip came out looking like it was microwaved (could tell by the taste and edges of the dish). Pork chop was ruined by the mushy mushroom topping and mushy rice, the mushy corn side was also bland and bad. Also I had a reservation made and they seemed to have lost it. I hope they can figure out how to get the food in a more palatable and presentable condition… This review is for dinner. Breakfast at the hotel is decent.

Amazing food! Amazing service! Amazing atmosphere! You have to try the Cadillac mushrooms! I am 45 years old and have refused to eat mushrooms my whole life….taste and texture…..but I will order and eat the Cadillac Mushrooms every single time we go…and was actually sad 1 time we went and they weren’t available that night. A must try!!!

Amazing food and elegant atmosphere in a super cute small town. I had the chicken Cesar wrap which was huge and so delicious! I don’t usually like home cut fries, but their’s where extra crispy with just the right amount of salt which in my opinion made them perfect! Prices are fairly high, but comparable to other fine dining and well worth it.
