First of all, the vibe is not what you would expect. The tables and chairs really need to be replaced — they are giving yard sale leftovers when the restaurant is trying to give upscale dining.
Second, we felt bad because the waiter was clearly slammed and no one was helping him. He was nice but did not do a good job because of how busy he was. After bringing us our first dishes, he didn’t give us any silverware or plates so we just sat there awkwardly. Our drinks were left at the bar for 15 minutes after being made and the bartender didn’t bother bringing them over even though she wasn’t doing anything other than cleaning. When our waiter finally came back he finally realized he hadn’t given us plates, silverware or napkins, so he brought us plates and spoons (???) and forgot the rest. So we continued to sit there awkwardly with our appetizers on the table. As we sat there we noticed how not a single table around us had been bussed and they were all covered in trash and dirty dishes which was very unappealing.
When we were finally able to ask our waiter for silverware and napkins so we could eat, the food was very disappointing. The pita chips that came with our hummus plate were hard as a brick and stale, and the carrot salad was half raw — some carrots were cooked nicely, but others were crunchy and had barely been cooked at all. The rest of our plates were just okay but definitely not worth the price we paid. Perhaps this was just a one-time bad experience but it was shocking given the good reviews.
Overall this was an extremely disappointing experience and I would not return or recommend.
If anyone if your dining party has issues walking, I would recommend requesting a table on the first floor – as someone who is not a master in heels, I found the spiral staircase a bit daunting.
All of the appetizers – 5/5.
We were there for restaurant week, so I’m not sure if the dishes are the same as a normal week, but my lamb was delicious. I’m not one to order chicken, but I would consider the chicken dish next time – my friend loved it. I found the salmon to be a bit bland, but it was still decent. The salmon is a good option if you want something on the lighter side. I would try anything on the menu – everything had a really interesting blend of spices and it was refreshing to see unique flavors and food combos when dining out.
The milk tarte was the only thing I found to be lacking, so I would go with the chocolate option. It’s extremely rich, dense, and damn delicious!
Friendly staff.
Allow time to find parking.
I’ll definitely go back!
I had the prefixed menu that included 4 courses. The lamb chops were cooked so well and with a nice touch of a Mediterranean flavor.
I would also recommend the ribeye steak.
I would definitely come back!
Chef Ari successfully fuses flavors that you would not expect to work together and makes it work.
The lamb was devine it was so good we went back the next night! We had the beef tenderloin equally devine.
The cuisine is very satisfying without serving supersized portions. Chef prepared a platter of dips with house baked breads, I still dream about it!
Desserts were also delicious.
Had a very good bottle of wine and a great cocktail.
A definite must try!
I’ve had bad fusion before. Dishes that run on gimmick and novelty but fail to actually blend flavors well. Not the case here!
The cons can be summed up in this: style over function. Eclectic, mid century modern decor with a funky vibe that even translated to the bathroom, with its pink tile and miniature gold trash can – with no room for trash! Paper towels littered the otherwise decorative floor.
Like most restaurants, they seemed understaffed. Our 7:45 reservation was greeted with a thirty minute wait for the main upstairs dining area, so we settled into the more boisterous downstairs. This didn’t ruin our night by any means, but they should work out their reservation system so that people expecting a seamless sit-down experience aren’t left waiting around!
No complaints about the food whatsoever. Masterfully blended, unique flavor combinations that were just familiar enough to remind us of comfort food. The Peri peri chicken was spicy, but with a slow, warming heat that grew over time. The tender couscous with crispy bits stole the show, while the plantains were perfectly sweet, spiced, and savory. To finish, moist, delicately spiced chocolate cake. Delicious.
Overall, it was unique, flavorful experience with kinks of a new restaurant that continues to find its footing.
