Whole Bean – GROUND CONTROL COFFEE ROASTERS
Reviews
Parking in the private lot gets packed, no street parking either. Be patient, you maybe driving around a few times to try to find a closer parking spot to the roaster.
It’s busy this morning. Heavy traffic and gets a bit stuffy in here. Not a lot of seating and it feels like everyone is on top of each other.
The order counter gets clogged up for the folks trying to traverse through to exit. The layout doesn’t work so well.
Ordered a 16 oz golden harvest latte with oat milk, 16 oz pumpkin pie latte with oat milk, 12 oz green tea, overnight oat, chocolate croissant, bacon and Gruyère, herb and cheese biscuit and goat olive and oregano pastries.
$48.57
Their coffee shots come in twos.
The green tea is weak of a brew for the 12 oz of water. Lacks any flavor.
The goat, olive and oregano is good, especially in the toaster oven.
The herb and cheese biscuit is really dry, decent flavor, definitely dry.
The pumpkin latte is okay, so-so flavor, not enough punch with two shots of espresso for the 16 oz. Could use a third for sure.
The golden harvest latte flavor is nice, definitely different. Not a strong as far as a brew.
The chocolate croissant may as well have been a plain croissant, hardly any chocolate to it.
The overnight oats would likely be better without the extremely dry peanut butter, makes it feel as if you are eating flour and nothing else. It at least makes you drink more of their coffee.
The golden harvest and the goat olive and oregano are worth a repeat. Skip the rest.
Bake goods and snacks are ok, nothing to write home about.
I came in on a Tuesday morning while visiting from out of town and they only had 4 or 5 available 12oz bags of coffee remaining for sale, split between two varieties. I always try to visit a local roaster whenever I travel, so I had high hopes. I also got a ham & cheese croissant and a muffin, and the purchase of beans came with a complimentary drip coffee.
Every seat was taken inside, which says a lot for a Tuesday morning, so I was a bit bummed that I wasn’t going to be able to sit and relax with my drip and get something else for the road. While that thought was swimming in my head, I wasn’t paying attention when I was told my total was $53. I just tapped to pay, waited for my pastries, and ate them outside on an available table.
It struck me that evening that $53 seemed WAY too high for a bag of coffee and two pastries. So I reached out to Ground Control via Instagram after hours, and by 10:40 the next morning, they had responded with an apology, went back and found my transaction, and issued a refund for a second bag of coffee I had mistakenly been charged for. Since I was from out of town, it would have been nearly impossible to get back to Farmington to speak with someone directly, so being able to contact them through another means was convenient. They also shared their preferred technique for the beans I bought, and I can say that I am very impressed by the coffee I produced.
The coffee and service are stellar, but the available seating and layout left a little to be desired. Overall, would gladly visit again.
The overnight oats are phenomenal.
