Me and my Son Jathik had a mama & son dinner date at AOI Japanese Restaurant, and from the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with genuine warmth by Jennifer, our host for the night. She set the tone immediately. Amazing hospitality, attentiveness and courtesy from Jenifer
The atmosphere makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another country or another time altogether. Japanese culture is beautifully preserved here, and the level of authenticity is honestly mind blowing. Words won’t do it justice, so I’ll be sharing photos and videos.
The food was incredible, authentic and mouth watering. so I’ll let the visuals speak for themselves.

One unforgettable moment was when my son accidentally ate a chunk of wasabi… I honestly panicked because I didn’t know what was happening and then Jennifer jumped in to action to attend to him and the chef suggested oolong tea after making sure he was fine without hesitation, I joined him in the pain by eating an even bigger chunk of wasabi which felt like dying and coming back to life yet even without oolong tea, took it like a champ! I told him that’s how the OG does it. So I could remind him that when he starts fighting with me lol. A core memory unlocked. My son also learned how to use chopsticks in under three minutes n so did I.
The chefs did an outstanding job the food impressed my son, which says a lot because he’s not easy to please.
I rambled on for so long just because the entire experience was amazing.
I can’t thank the GM Brian enough for having an excellent team of staff that made me and my son feel at home and for giving us an unbelievable amount of joy. We are eagerly waiting for the next experience at the hotel.

As a newly engaged couple, my fiancé and I decided to host our parents’ meetup dinner at AOI, and we were blown away by the service and hospitality. Our waiter Ben was an incredible host and made us all feel so comfortable— he even memorized all our names by the end of the night.

We ordered the sushi dinner + sashimi boat w additional appetizers and rolls and enjoyed every dish. We particularly loved the uni and spicy scallop roll. Thank you AOI for making this a special night for us to remember!

Aoi Japanese Restaurant & Bar is an absolute gem! From the moment you step in, the atmosphere feels warm and inviting, with an authenticity that instantly transports you to Japan.

The fact that the owner, sushi chef, and staff are all Japanese really shines through in both the hospitality and the cuisine.

The food is nothing short of outstanding. Every bite was fresh, full of depth, and crafted with care. The menu is refreshingly authentic, offering a true taste of Japan that I have never found in NJ. Dining here honestly made me feel like I was on vacation in Japan without leaving town.

If you’re looking for exceptional Japanese food paired with a genuine cultural experience, Aoi is the place!

Made 6pm reservation for two on Saturday. We arrived on time, had to wait for a few minutes to get seated because there were only 3 wait staff including the manager working. Placed order for 5 items including 2 entrees and 3 appetizers. 1 appetizers came after about 20 minutes, 1 entree came out 15 to 20 minutes later, another appetizer(sashimi sampler) came after another 10 minutes, second entree came out 10 minutes later, which was about an hour after order was placed, the last appetizer didn’t come out. The waitress actually checked with us whether we got the appetizer, then she came back to ask whether we wanted sashimi or sushi, although the photo showed the sushi version. We told her we wanted sushi, but it never came. The wait staff were okay, the restaurant got busier after 6:30pm. Management should work on staffing issue. Okay fish, but we paid Manhattan price. 2 entrees and two appetizers, no drinks, the bill came out to 150 including a 18% tips.

If you want authentic Japanese and don’t want to travel to NYC or northern Jersey, Aoi is the place to go. High quality sashimi and sushi. I always go for the Chirashi bowl. For rolls, I go with the caterpillar roll. They do omakase (I believe on the weekends only) and offer hot noodle soups and rice dishes. For dessert, you can never go wrong with the black sesame panacota!

No complaints about the actual food. The staff is nice and friendly, but they may be understaffed with front of house and in the kitchen, which created a not so great dining experience.

When we arrived we were very excited because the pictures look great. We arrived at 12:55. We were sat immediately. There were 7 filled tables with a total of about 14 guests. Though we were sat right away and asked if we wanted water and tea, we didn’t receive the water until about 1:15 after I flagged down the waitress to inquire as to when it would arrive. She did apologize and we were served our water and tea shortly after.

When the water arrived, we took advantage of having the waitress at our table and ordered a caterpillar roll, shrimp tempura and tuna and cucumber roll.

We did want to try a few things, but the pacing and timeliness discouraged us from doing so we got items that we thought would be a bit quicker. We assumed an hour would be enough time to try a bunch things but not having been served until after 1:41, after being here for 40+ mins didn’t leave much time.

In an area with more than a few sushi options, this place offers service far below what you would get almost anywhere else, or at least they did today.

Surprising find in Woodbridge. Hope this place does well so I can keep coming back! Fish was fresh, rice nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked.

Had dinner here with friends and we spent almost $200 in total. Unfortunately, I found a piece of plastic in my nabeyaki udon soup.

I immediately informed the staff. She took away the plastic before I had the chance to take a photo — that was my oversight for not taking photo right away. The manager did come over to apologize, but there was no real action taken. No replacement was offered. Instead, the manager simply asked me, “Are you okay?”

Honestly, how would you feel finding plastic in your food?

In the end, we still paid the full bill because I didn’t want to make a scene in front of my friends. But this experience was extremely disappointing. The food was average and not worth the price — and the lack of proper resolution after a food safety issue makes it even worse.

I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this place to others. Mistakes may happen, but how a restaurant handles them is what truly shows their standards — and this was deeply disappointing.

Really didn’t get the opportunity to dine in the restaurant since they had a reservation for 25 people, not hotel guests. They could not accommodate one person. Unfortunate. The F&B director did apologize the following day. But a hotel with 11 floors should be able to accommodate their hotel guests.

Absolutely loved our experience at AOI Japanese Restaurant in the APA Hotel Woodbridge!

From start to finish, everything was perfect. We ordered the miso soup, two rolls, calamari, edamame, chicken, Shrimp Tempura (my fav) and finished with fried ice cream — both red bean and mango flavors. Every single dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The fried ice cream was the perfect sweet ending!

The atmosphere is cozy yet elegant, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive — they really made us feel welcome and taken care of.

If you’re in the area or staying at the hotel, this place is a must-try. Can’t wait to come back again soon!
