A step back in time, but in a good way! Ever been to a Old-fashioned diner and been disappointed by the dirty furniture and bad food? Nellies Cafe is GOOD. Clean tables, classic dishes, friendly service, and a charming atmosphere. My waitress was helpful and nice and always around but never annoyingly so. She must have refilled my coffee 7 times! Will definitely be back. Best breakfast around.

Waitress was very pleasant and attentive.
No cinnamon chicken!
Had the hamburger steak with baked potato, lettuce salad and a cup of wild rice chicken soup. Everything was flavor-able, especially the wild rice chicken soup. Decor is 80’s country with little house on the prairie pictures.
Perfect end for my Laura Ingalls Wilder day.

Loved it . Wish my wife was with me … Really enjoyed Walnut Grove and the museum.. First time to Nellie’s cafe… was a little surprised they dont take credit cards but had cash,which I usually dont..Anyway great place to stop and eat.

Ok Cafe on the prairie. The only reason we stopped in was because of the Nellie’s sign. We were looking for the small town hospitality. But again it was OK. Just a heads up, this is a cash only cafe. You have to get cash across the street at the convenience stations ATM.
Very disappointed they changed the name to Dorothy’s. Which has nothing to do with Laura Ingalls wilder. Maybe they are wanting something different? Not sure, but the Nellie’s sign is still up. None of us “10 people” had any complaints about the food. No one came out to offer refills or to see how everything was.

This restaurant is a cozy small town cafe with 70’s charm. It has some old time memorabilia, and some great autographed pictures of the cast on the wall. The staff was friendly, and the food came out fast.

Food and service were good. But the restaurant and menu have nothing remotely similar to a Nellie’s Cafe. I doubt Nellie’s had wood paneling and cheeseburgers. A theme restaurant it is not, a restaurant capitalizing on an American TV personality it is.
