We ordered delivery, and after living in La Crosse for seven years, I’ve finally found the American Chinese food I’ve been craving.
Considering it was delivery and not straight out of the kitchen, everything was nearly perfect. The vegetables in every dish were cooked just right—nice crunch without being undercooked or over cooked.
The lo mein noodles… wow. Perfectly cooked with an amazing wok-char flavor. Such a relief after having bland, overcooked noodles from another (unnamed) place. We ordered a couple entrées—one chicken and one beef—and both were delicious.
Everything was well seasoned and balanced. Crab rangoons? Always good, and these were no exception.
The only small complaint was that the pork fried rice was slightly under-hydrated, but it was still decent and definitely wouldn’t take anything away from the overall experience.
We’ll absolutely be ordering again.

Always my go to when I’m craving Chinese. They are always super fast and have never gotten a single detail wrong. Super tasty too with lots of variety and staples. They have the best hot and sour soup in town which is a must have for me! Be sure to order direct from their website to get better deals and support local!

Our experience with Great Wall was NOT good. The initial impression was that the place was filthy and in disarray. The person who took our order was curt if not efficient. We were directed to the cooler to get our own canned sodas which were luke warm and no ice offered or available. The “appetizers” were anything but. The so-called spring rolls were greasy and void of any texture or flavor. My eggroll was greasy (there’s a theme here) and was void of any amount of discernible vegetables or meat.
Both entrees came in a to go container. Not even a plate. My wife ordered a peapod dish which she said was pretty good. My sweet and sour pork (pictured) was disgusting. The pork was chewy and tough. The batter was thick and again…greasy. I threw most of it away. Our bill came to just over $40
When my wife asked for more sauce for her peapod dish she was told “we don’t do that here”. No problem. We will never go there again.

WOW! By far my favorite Chinese food restaurant in the area now!!!!! I had never ordered food from them before but today I thought meh, why not. I ordered chicken fried rice (no veggies so if you think it looks bleh- no veggies = no color) and sweet and sour chicken which was AMAZING!!!! Their food does seem to be pricier than any other Chinese restaurant in town HOWEVER, they don’t use those pre-packaged looking fried chicken pieces (you know the ones- they all look about the same size and mostly the same shape) and their sauce isn’t that really thin tangy stuff that again seems like some pre-made thing that every other restaurant serves.

Their sweet and sour chicken and the sauce are both reminiscent of the sweet and sour chicken and sauce from Peking (mom and pop Chinese restaurant that used to be on the North Side of La Crosse- they retired/ closed down years ago). If I closed my eyes- the textures, tastes, and consistency of the chicken and sauce is almost identical. Hunan had become my favorite after Peking closed, but they eventually closed as well. I had no favorites left- until now.

I can’t speak for atmosphere as I ordered my food through DoorDash, HOWEVER I can give them 4 stars for service as I was super impressed with how my food was packaged. They put a piece of cardboard in the bottom of the brown bag that my food was in (so it wouldn’t rip out- very thoughtful). The servings were so full, they had to staple the fried rice container closed. They lose one star for service because although I could have paid $1 for 6 fortune cookies, most places throw a couple in the bag for free but no fortune cookies from this place. Also- don’t lose any stars for it but after having ordered through doordash, I went online to see what their food looked like and noticed on their website that if you order through their actual website, you get free donuts or dumplings or something if you spend x amount of money (which isn’t hard to hit at all). (Why couldn’t you just throw some cookies in the bag?!) I digress.

My only other negative was that I hit a small piece of bone in a piece of chicken from my chicken fried rice but that can happen anywhere. It was just the one piece (that I’m aware of- the rest of the food all went in the refrigerator).

If you’re thinking hm… should I try this place? The answer should be yes! If you don’t like it (we all don’t like the same things) fine, but I’m guessing you’re going to like it.

Came into Mayo from 2 hours away. Got some dinner since food was done at hospital at 7pm. Didn’t have any silverware, sauces, napkins. The rice was cold the fried dumplings were cold and soft and soggy yet hard all at the same time. Very disappointed ecspecially afyer the paying the price I did. Definatley lesson learned and we won’t be back there ever.

I’ve been to Great Wall numerous times. The food is standard takeout Chinese. It has always been good and I’ve never had any issues. But last night when getting it with some friends I found what looks to be little metal hooks in my food. I had already eaten a good amount and am hoping I didn’t swallow any. Will not be going back unfortunately.

Be careful. The fried rice changed so much here in the last two years… I would be careful what I order. I ment to order the dinner combo, but ordered the full entree.. oops

Ordered a beef and broccoli, light on rice, paid extra for extra meat and got a bowl as you can see in the photo that doesn’t add up to the cost. They have made their crab rangoon half of what they used to be.

Kinda a hole-in-the-wall type place but an absolute staple of downtown la crosse and a wonderful option to get affordable food in big servings. Polite and fast service

Small carry out restaurant. No seating inside except a waiting area. For pick up or delivery. Great food and they do special requests when asked appropriately.
