Eddie Yiu Kwong Tang, an owner of Royal Thai Oriental Restaurant in Punta Gorda and Wheeler’s Goody Cafe in Arcadia, has died of cancer at the age of 62.

A small, quaint restaurant. This place makes you feel like you’re eating at someone’s house and the quality really shows. Meals are simple, but substitutions make anything possible, especially with certain dietary needs. They also have a sliding heat scale, so even a meal that is supposed to be spicy can be mild, or vice versa. Want it hot? Ask for a 10. Not so much? Ask for a 1. A small selection of beverages, teas, wine & beer. They also have a small dessert menu, if you have room. Friendly & knowledgeable service. Very patient with first-time visitors. Since this restaurant is small and has limited hours of operation, a wait time is possible. But trust me, it’s worth it.

Food was OK. Customer Service needs work specially when busy. Staff gets annoyed when you ask questions. My wife and I was fortunate to get an OK experience and definitely believe all the 1 to 3 stars reviews posted about this place. The customer does not come first here. So if you are looking for great service and have more than 4 in your group, this is definitely not the restaurant to go to.

Our friends took us to their favoite Thai place in Punta Gorda, Royal Thai, since they knew we liked Thai. It was busy enough we had to wait for a table and it stayed busy the whole time we were there. Two of us had Thai Ice Tea, which is always good. OOur friend both ordered soup and their meals, so they both had two kinds of soup, the ones they ordered and the daily soup that came with their meals. Needless to say, they both took some food home. My wife and I skipped ordering extra soup so our meals were just right in size. The daily soup had ground chicken in it and was very good. My wife ordered Pineapple Curry with chicken, medium spicy, and it came fairly mild. She stil liked it. I had Sweet Basil with pork, medium spicy and it had a bit of life, but now we know to order more spicy than normal here. I also enjoyed my meal. Service was good. We have had better Thai, but can believe this is the best locally.

I am from out of state and was looking for some good Thai. The atmosphere is perfect. The staff are friendly. The food is exactly what I had hoped for. The outside is nice with the lights and trees. Bathrooms were really clean. I want to come again!

Such an incredible place. I’m literally shocked. I’ve been looking for good Thai food for so long and that’s extremely hard in Florida. The food I had at Royal Thai was absolutely amazing and full of flavor. Also, I’m vegan and they made everything plant based for me. I appreciate the accommodation. I had soup and Curry that blew me away. June, the owner, is such a great person and came out to personally introduced herself. I enjoyed our friendly conversation. Her employees are well trained and are very polite. If you’re looking for good Thai food this is up there with some of the best I’ve ever had and I’ve traveled all over the world so I would say my expectations are very high. If you have not been to Royal Thai yet, do yourself a favor and make a date. You will thank yourself.

Be there at 4pm when they open. If you show up at 5pm you will wait an hour to get seated. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
The food is excellent, plenty of choices.
I eat here at least once a week.

Best Thai/oriental restaurant in the county! High quality and actually authentic food. Fresh ingredients, friendly staff and excellent service! Large portions and great variety! Have been coming here for years and have been recommending it since the first visit–I have probably eaten over half the menu by now.

The food prepared by June and her staff is outstanding. This place is an absolute treasure. Get there at the opening or be prepared to wait because the popularity of this wonderful restaurant has spread. There is nothing but fine authentic THAI food served here. The Tom Yum soup is a tremendous starter for me and everything is freshly made. My wife is Vegan and June takes very special care for her meals. We love the staff and the decor. Do not pass up this restaurant! June [the owner] will visit every table to make sure that you are happy with your food and service…..you will be!
