Worst sushi I’ve ever eaten, EVER!

The spicy tuna on top had the texture of cat food, and was just plopped on top of the rice that was supposed to be a roll. It was all I could do to choke it down.

The “dynamite” roll was pathetic and terrible. It also had the cat food tuna dumped on top of it, and the roll that boasted being a “stuffed jalapeño” barely had a sliver of jalapeño in it. It was horrible.

Upon arrival, my first impression that it was a waffle house that serves sushi. But that didn’t bother me. The “cooks” station was situated at the back of the dining room with the “cooks” preparing the food there. The two guys were back there repairing food and talking sports and other random things, nothing out of the ordinary. They had classic rock music playing at a reasonable volume and nothing out of the ordinary. But at some point the “cook” turned the music up to such an absolutely obnoxious level that you couldn’t even think or hear the server talking as they stood next to you. At first I assumed they just heard a part of a song that they really enjoyed and wanted to crank it up to enjoy that section of music. But when the song was over and the next song was over and the next song was over and the volume still stayed the same I decided to leave. I like classic rock music, and I liked the songs that were playing, and I like loud music. However, I don’t want to go to sit down to have a meal at a restaurant and be overwhelmed with such an unprofessional and childish environment.

Don’t waste your time or money.
I wish I could have both of them back myself.

I didn’t even finish the food It was SO BAD!

Food was pretty good, but they could fix a few things. My yellowtail portion size was huge, but the rice under was too small and so it kep falling off. There was entirely too much sauce on my tiger roll, I had to scrape quite a bit off to be able to enjoy it. As for the experience itself, the tables were horribly slanted, the chairs uncomfortable, and the hours posted here are wrong. Also, who charges a fee for credit card payment in 2022????

I’ve eaten here 3 times. Each time something different. Each time the food was fresh, delicious and unique. Sat at the bar and it was busy most often.
I, unlike the other reviewer, would give the Crab Rangoon a solid “3.5”

I tried to call in a carry out order and the phone was busy for over an hour. Went in to place our order and the staff was standing around chatting with ZERO customers in the restaurant. We placed our order and were told it would be 15 minutes. It took 25. We also ordered extra giner AND paid more for it. We were given zero ginger or wasabi. The rolls were also thrown carelessly in the container. We live an hour away and were out of town and were 10 minutes out of town when I realized we had no wasabi or ginger. We turned back around. We got to the restaurant at 1:47 and they had the doors locked. They close at 2! We knocked on the door and luckily someone came and gave us what we ordered. My 3 rolls and a sushi pizza appetizer plus extra ginger were $44. I will never go back. Horrible horrible experience!

The yorokobi shrimp is to die for. I love fresh sushi, there’s a reason their egg rolls always sell out, and I have never had a bad meal here.

A great but small sushi venue. Very cozy, definitely an intimate atmosphere. The sushi was well prepared, and there was quite a bit for the price. The place looks to have been renovated in the last year, and the new decor is excellent, though I would recommend something to block off the drink/back prep/storage area.
The server was fantastic, very pleasant, courteous, and timely. The rest of the staff were equally respectful, even though they weren’t helping our party. All in all, a great place to get Sushi in Burlington.

From starters our waitress didn’t have her hair up, and when she brought us our drink her hair was stuck to the glass. I got the dragon roll, the shrimp tasted like they had just boiled it. Wouldn’t recommend.

Driving home from Madison WI to St. Louis MO and this place popped up as an option for food. I detoured to stop in and have a quick bit to eat and take a break from the road. This sushi restaurant is one of the best I’ve been to! The crab Rangoon is by far the best. I had 2 rolls that were amazing. I have to make this trip again next month and I will be stopping in again for sure!

Please dont advertise that you have a lobster roll when its a imitation crab medley! At least price it accordingly. I was a big fan of the place a few years ago when it was in the Winegard plaza but since they moved and hired inadequate staff, it had went severely downhill! The sushi prices are reasonable when made with care and by people who care about the food they make! Im so sorry i have to write a review for this place, that is so negative, when this place was “off the chain”!! Please turn this around or i also will have to pull my business away!

Shokai is the place to go for sushi around Burlington! I have been going there for over a year now for their sushi and their service is great. They have carry out and the prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is small but cozy and quiet. I have nothing negative to say about Shokai Sushi, besides the hours since I often work second shift. They aren’t open on Sundays either, but they are worth the wait and time to enjoy their sushi.
