The Hack-Ma-Tack Inn is a casual fine dining restaurant located on the Cheboygan River right at the mouth of beautiful Mullett Lake. It is nestled between towering trees and greenery, with picturesque windows overlooking the river. Named after the Native American word for Tamarack…”Hack-Ma-Tack”, is mostly built with strong tamarack logs. Built in 1894 as a hunting and fishing lodge, the Hack-Ma-Tack has a rich and interesting history. The atmosphere of the restaurant has a rustic elegance with a uniqueness that one has to experience for themselves. Specialties include slow roasted prime-rib, fresh whitefish, South African lobster, and an extensive wine list.

First time here, was recommended for their steaks. The atmosphere is old lodge feel, clean and eclectic. We started with a drink at the bar, the bartender was friendly and we settled on a martini and Manhattan, both were good. For dinner, I chose the steak medium rare. It was cooked perfectly, but it was not very tender. It felt like a lesser grade than prime. Our server was very pleasant and overall I would recommend dining here

Really cool building with lots to look at inside. Had high hopes. Table of 8 of us. I felt I had to apologize to everyone for the bad experience, since it was my idea to go there for dinner.
Waiter was rude and never present. He insisted we must be all on one bill, which is fine, but then wouldn’t provide a detailed receipt. I may have double tipped, who knows?!
The best dish was the calamari, and only because it was swimming in sauce.
Big time bummer!

Ordered the Whitefish w/almonds & steak fries – the fish was overcooked & dry – steak fries were burnt to a crisp. Others were happy with their orders – for the price the food was disappointing – atmosphere and location were great – service was very good

Nice place! This was an old hunting and fishing lodge, as I understand it. Now a fine dining restaurant. We just went for drinks and appetizers so I can’t speak of the full menu, but the calamari and white fish dip starters were excellent! I’ll be back for dinner during another visit to the area.

Up scale. Not run of the mill. Great atmosphere. Awesome food. Wonderful service. Be prepared for surprising desserts also. The small Prime Rib is larger than expected! The grill isn’t hot enough for the”Pittsburgh Style”, but the cook is top-notch and we were very satisfied. The Coconut Cream Pie is the best served anywhere. Come by Boat or car. Enjoy the experienc!

This is my favorite place to boat to. Such a cool spot tucked into the woods on the water. The best of all worlds. Food is fantastic. The legend of the big-black-bass is ingrained in my mind from the years of coming here!
