1886 at the Tarpon Inn is hands-down one of our favorite spots in Port Aransas—and the reason is Lauren. If Lauren is behind the bar, you’re in for a great night. ✨ And if you’re a true regular, you probably call know her as LJ.
We originally followed Lauren from another bar because she really is that good, and if she ever leaves 1886, we’ll follow her again without hesitation. That kind of loyalty doesn’t happen by accident.
The atmosphere is intimate and timeless, but Lauren is what truly makes this place special. Her cocktails are consistently incredible—from some of the best margaritas on the island to expertly crafted classics and creative specialty drinks. No matter what you order, she makes it thoughtfully and flawlessly.
Her attention to detail, warmth, and genuine hospitality make every visit feel personal. She remembers your name, what you like to drink, reads the room, and somehow always knows exactly what you’re in the mood for.
We don’t just stop in when it’s convenient—we come back because of her. That kind of service is rare, and it’s what turns a great bar into a place you keep returning to. Right now, in our opinion, it’s the best place to go in town.

Lauren absolutely makes our night at 1886 at Roosevelt’s every time we’re in. From the moment we sit down, she brings this infectious, happy energy that instantly sets the tone—warm, fun, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling forced. You can tell she loves what she does, and it makes the whole bar feel more alive.
And the cocktails? Always truly wonderful. Lauren clearly knows and cares about guests loving the cocktails: the drinks are consistently balanced, creative, and beautifully executed, with thoughtful flavors that feel both elevated and effortless. She gives great recommendations, nails our preferences, and every pour comes with that extra bit of care.

1886 has become a staple for our date night. Lauren is engaging, funny, and an incredible mixologist, who brings energy and enthusiasm to every evening. We immediately felt like we were old friends. And to top it off she makes an incredible Lemon Drop Martini. This is a great place to go if you’re interested in an upper class atmosphere with delicious drinks and a great bartender.

Had brunch at 1886 today..so good..the fried eggs were cooked perfectly…can’t do that at home! We had the BLT with two eggs and added fries…DELICIOUS! We sat on the deck..it was a beautiful start of the day!

Lauren is one of the best bartenders around. So personable, efficient and fun. She makes great drinks and is a hard worker. We followed her from another establishment. Very friendly atmosphere. A lot of locals come here. Will visit this bar every time we are in Port A.

We stopped by here on a whim after reading reviews and seeing “best dirty martinis” and… we have to second this. The environment is upscale. The bartender Lauren did let us know ahead that our outfits (wife’s bathing suit with cover up, and my swimming trunks and tee shirt) didn’t meet their dress code, but as long as the manager was okay, she would gladly serve us. Some may take offense to that, but we appreciated the directness and transparency, communicated in the nicest way. The dirty martinis and Old Fashioned are ordered were, indeed, top tier. Good little hideaway spot that not a lot know about. We came in a Sunday afternoon, so very relaxed, chill, and laid back with live acoustic music and gorgeous weather. A spot to absolutely add to the list if you’re visiting.

Stopped by for happy hour as I was in town for work. Loved this place…they had a lively crowd of locals!!! If you are in Port A, this is a must go to place for a drink!
