Had a wonderful evening at Mater1a. The tasting menu was elegant and well-judged, with ingredients treated thoughtfully throughout.

Stand-out dishes included Mr. Tanaka’s tuna with umami pavlova, which was both playful and surprisingly balanced, while the suckling pig with tigernut and Cévennes onion was rich yet refined.

A special mention to Cristian, the sommelier, who introduced us to several excellent wines and sakes that paired effortlessly with the food. The young head chef explained each dish with clarity and passion.

A refined but genuinely welcoming experience. Highly recommended.

Loved my experience at Mater1a. You can really feel Victor’s creative vision in every dish — the flavours are bold and unexpected. The white tuna sashimi with young leeks and elderflower dressing completely blew me away — I’ve honestly never had anything like it.
Service was impeccable: warm, attentive, and effortless. The DJ added great energy and made the whole space feel lively without taking away from the food.
Really enjoyed my time here and will definitely be back when the longer set menu launches (currently only the 14-course tasting). A genuinely exciting new spot in London.

Had a great dinner at Mater1a — one of London’s exciting new openings. Every dish was beautifully thought through, each telling its own story. A truly memorable experience from start to finish and huge credit to Chef Victor Garvey and the team. Service was excellent, with a special shout-out to Ruben who was amazing and made us feel very welcome. Will definitely be back and highly recommend!

Amazing evening with top-tier service and a beautiful, moody ambience. The staff are deeply knowledgeable, explaining the global origins of every dish on the tasting menu with genuine passion.

It’s rare to find combinations this innovative that actually taste good rather than just being ‘different.’ Every dish had a flavor I’d never quite met before.

A dark cosy environment with live DJ tunes combined with incredible tasting menu with a focus on simplicity and purity letting the top notch ingredients speak. Japanese influenced combined with some Californian flair. Recently open and hence still a bit of a hidden gem, visit before it becomes too hard to book.

A meal that feels built by hand and intention. Food that looks calm with elaborate tastes. Nothing feels showy, yet everything deliberate. It’s less a dinner, more a small, precise collision of craft, sound and flavour.

Mater1a is fantastic. Intimate space, calm atmosphere, and food that’s completely ingredient-driven. Nothing feels overdone — just thoughtful, confident cooking. One of the most memorable meals I’ve had in London.

An excellent dining experience at Mater1a, a refined and intimate restaurant led by Victor Garvey. With only 16 seats per evening, the focus on seasonality, technique and hospitality is clear from the moment you arrive.

Standout dishes included the Sawara alternative with Oscietra caviar and the Segovian suckling pig with an oden-style broth, both elegant and deeply satisfying. The Shizuoka Crown melon dessert was light, balanced and memorable.

A wonderful choice for a special occasion, with warm service and thoughtful details throughout.

Mater1a Prima is outstanding. The cooking is precise, original, and perfectly balanced, with clean flavours and real depth. Highlights for me were the hiramasa with elderflower, the Mr Tanaka tuna, the Gillardeau oyster with shiso and caviar, and the suckling pig with yuzu mustard. Desserts were just as impressive, especially the crown melon and the chocolate tarte soufflé. The wine pairing was outstanding and elevated the whole experience. Service was polished and the pacing was immaculate. Easily one of the best tasting menus in London.
