Cocina Consuelo is a New York love song – Review – The Infatuation
Reviews
That said, the pancake was truly outstanding and possibly the best pancake I’ve ever had. This is absolutely worth the visit on its own. The tortilla con huevos was flavorful but quite small for the price, and the quesadilla was solid yet nothing particularly memorable.
Where Cocina Consuelo really shines is the experience. The service was tremendous. Despite the wait, the hostess went out of her way to make us feel welcome by offering coffee and ensuring we were well taken care of. The atmosphere was another highlight — warm and inviting, almost like dining in someone’s home.
With a few additional menu options and a better balance between portion size and pricing, this would easily be a five-star experience. As it stands, it’s a lovely spot with great service and a standout pancake.
Before you even walk in, the colors from outside is already pulling you in, even if you didn’t plan on stopping here. The ambiance and vibe was amazing. A bit cozy but I don’t mind that at all.
Started off with the fennel salad which was tangy with a little kick. Nice and refreshing to start the meal off with.
We then followed up with the bone marrow Birria and the mole negro which is a confit duck leg. Besides my spot in the south Bronx, this is next up on the mole list. It was delicious and savory and not too heavy.
Once the bone marrow dish is done, you get a shot which is cilantro infused vodka! Salut!
Finished with this deconstructed tiramisu which wasn’t too sweet which is the way I love my desserts.
I will definitely come here again to try some other dishes just because this spot deserves it.
Shoutout to the owner saying she only works there and was being humble, but I do my research before hitting up a spot so thank you for being yourself and providing this wonderful experience with your staff.
The restaurant is a small 20 seater + a patio for the summer. We made th Saturday brunch & were the last seating at 2PM.
The food takes it time, but boy-o-boy was it freaking delicious.
The Masa pancake was light as air. Imagine corn-bread, but toasted & super light. The toffee sauce — not too sweet, just complementing the corn.
Hibiscus quesadilla was the best. Thick shell, tangy sorrel — Outstanding. Blown away.
The Vegan fajitas were fabulous — the mushrooms had so much flavor. The cactus was cactusy — slimy & with a bite.
The Cheese torta was great too. The Oaxaca shining through the sandwich.
The people were warm, the atmosphere was great, everyone looked like they enjoyed working at the place & that reflected in the awesome food.
Should definitely plan a dinner visit.
The staff was amazing! You can truly feel the passion in this place.
What we had: the Caesar was unconventional and delicious with endive and the right number of juicy anchovies. Must-get roasted candy-cane beets with kicky chile sauce. Duck mole, beautiful presentation of duck confit on an ocean of lovely chocolate-y mole, handmade masa tortillas. The dessert – off-menu – was a roasted purple sweet potato in a silky vanilla sauce, one of the best desserts I have had in the last 12 months. Cocktails are excellent and carefully made; non-alcoholic options are thoughtfully curated.
Don’t expect slick mid-town corporate restaurant service with a million employees making it a smooth experience. This is a small place with a small staff and you can expect to wait patiently and with a smile: everything will be great (and it was!).
A few nitpicks: my pancake was underdone in the center, and I tasted aluminum from the baking powder. Please look into aluminum-free products as some people are really sensitive to the taste! Still delicious.
