Came on a Saturday night to explore some new places around. Owner was super friendly when we ask for recommendations, we ordered a roast lamb dish, curry fish and some fried pastries for starters. Food was very delicious and portion was huge, great value. Milk tea was tasty too! Tasted like home cooking and felt cozy with friendly owner and his lovely daughter ❤️ will definitely comeback for more.

I hate to leave a bad review because I’ve never had east African food before. However, I do know that it shouldn’t be luke warm. The rice did not taste fresh and the beef…. well…. the texture was out of the ordinary. The sautee chicken sauqaar was heavily seasoned, in my opinion not in a good way. The seating is in the middle of a grocery store. A little awkward when people go in to shop. Customer service was good.

This East African restaurant is located in a plaza with plenty of parking spaces. It is cozy where you can dine in or take out. This was my first time there and I loved it. Service was wonderful, the food is tasty, and the price is not bad. Will visit again soon.

First of all I would say this is the best somali / east African spot I’ve had in this area. Flavors and spices are amazing and well balanced. Where it looses stars is at operation. The tables have no napkins and the restroom were so run down. The food temperature was not hot and and rice had too much oil. The goat was dry and not tender, needs to be cooked 45 more mins. I’m suspecting Sela rice and not long grain basmati. They were also out of bananas. If you want to have a taste of good somali food then this is the best place but it definitely needs improvements on the business part of things

I’ve been to Häyät twice in as many days, and for good reason: there’s not much more fun than nurturing a small family-run neighborhood ethnic restaurant, and I’m a fan.
Starting with the Stuffed Somali Pastry, similar to a samosa but the ground meat and vegetables are spiced with a palette of flavors completely unlike that of the Indian counterpart. Savory, subtle, crunchy, and very filling.
The mango lassi is gently sweetened, rather than the cloyingly sweet I find the usual offering. It’s so drinkable that after one glass I immediately craved another.
The buttery spaghetti — remember that Somalia was a colony of the Kingdom of Italy — is soft, past al dente, and lightly flavored with a tomato sauce that’s had all the acidic bitterness cooked out. Satisfying, although I did wish I had some parmesano Reggiano in my bag.
The Mlik Tea is a lighter version of chai, spiced with the Somali palette, including cardamom and cinnamon, and sweetened to your taste. Please tell Hussein whether you want no sugar, or the bomb. Very sippable.
Mandazi is a puffed bread with a hint of sweetness, closest to a plain donut without glaze, dusted with cinnamon. A nice way to end a meal.
Yes, I know I’ve left out all the main dishes, the lamb shank, the beef suqaar, the goat, and all the veggie sides. That’s because the first night I arrived after closing time and Hussein graciously asked me to sit and eat, and I picked quick and light choices. The second night I was fall-asleep tired, and wanted some Somali comfort food (like my mother never made) before heading off to bed, and passed on the heavier dishes with longer eat times. I will return for the other eats, and to once again enjoy Hussein’s hospitality (and stories).

The Roasted Lamb Shank recommended by Riley was absolutely great for me as a first timer at this restaurant. It was well seasoned and truly a surprise. Staff Riley did a great job servicing our group of 6.
