Red beans and rise…get you some!!
All of the fried chicken was crispy and well-seasoned. Chicken gumbo has a kick and hits the spot.
Staff is amazing!!
Inside joke..ask everyone that is working how do you say pecans and Xavier University but only if you come from out of town. The beautiful locals will not ask. So if your from out town try the food and talk to the staff.
My wife told me while writing this review that she overheard the chef saying they didn’t have the okra so they would need to take shrimp creole. I didn’t personally hear this but that might explain the lack of okra but I was never told about a substitute directly.
My wife had the stuffed bellpepper and she said it was under seasoned. My food had good seasoning IMO.
My daughter had the hot sausage on bun and it was good. But that’s Pats hot sausage patties so it’s kinda difficult to get that wrong.
I won’t be coming back . There’s no excuse for mushy shrimp. It’s not difficult to heat up a serving of okra in red sauce and throw in shrimp to order cook for 3 minutes and serve.
First Visit: I had their turkey necks with rice, potatoe salad, and peas. I ordered yams and a bellpepper as a side. Ok, the turkey necks weren’t seasoned enough for me, and the gravy was a little thicker than I am used to, but they were tender, so tender, the bone was actually falling apart also. The potatoe salad was delicious. We all know everyone makes potatoe salad differently. They had a little more pickle than others, but I love pickles, so thats why it was delicious to me. The peas were just peas, nothing fancy. The bellpepper was on point. I was even able to eat the bellpepper like I normally like to. I dont waste nothing. The yams were delicious also.
Second Visit: I had the Smothered Okra and shrimp with cornbread. This was delicious also.
I want to say the prices are also on the decent side, considering how people are charging you for your soul. This is a place I would say go check out because if you dont eat pork but still want beans, she got you. If you eat pork, she still has you. So whatever your meat preference is, she got you.
Now, dont judge me for my pics because i had to share. I know the presentation is for some and myself also, but it was delicious, so i didn’t care. The okra in the container came as is, but it was cold by the time I took the pic.
