Anyone who knows Jay, knows of his dream to rekindle his passion and open a local restaurant. A dream he has shared with friends near and far since he moved to Hillsborough in 2006 from Rochelle Park, NJ. It was a no brainer when that right door opened. This place is unbelievable. Totally worth the ride from Raleigh. The wings were huge, juicy and perfectly cooked. Hot honey sauce was really good. Could’ve been a little hotter but still really tasty. The wings were lightly breaded and not greasy at all. Fried okra was fresh made and the collards were seasoned nicely. Leg and thigh combo was off the hook too. Perfectly cooked and the seasoning is great. Mashed potatoes are real and delicious. Fries are hand cut and fried to perfection. The rest of the menu looked great too. Staff were very friendly and so is the owner. Definitely worth your business.

Surprise. Excellent first time experience. This place has the best fried chicken around. I got a two piece white meat chicken combo, with Mac and cheese. It was delicious, love the biscuit, French fries, sweet tea, everything was just absolutely perfect. Really good friendly service, they all work together to make it right.

Stopped by and ordered the Fried Chicken Gizzards platters, which comes with 2 sides. I chose collard greens and fries for the sides. The gizzard was really tasty and crispy. The collard green was also well seasoned. The fries was fresh but could be a little crispier in my opinion. Friendly staff. Quick service. Indoor and outdoor seatings available. Overall the food was delicious!

Delicious! I unwittingly ordered a meal just before closing. The staff were still friendly and welcoming and the food and service were better than you’ll get most places.
The chicken was cooked fresh and everything was nice and hot, and very tasty at that. Definitely the best chicken in the area and has to be one of the best in the state.

If you’re in the mood for fried chicken, worthwhile! The chicken is succulent and not too greasy despite some other comments, and the biscuit is solid. I don’t think the breading is as flavorful as it could be, but you also don’t leave feeling super heavy relative to what you max expect from fried chicken. I don’t think this is somewhere I’d seek out because it’s so good, but if I wanted fried chicken, this would scratch the itch well.

Wow! I ordered the 2 piece dark chicken meal and I was NOT disappointed. Flavorful juicy chicken with great, fresh cut fries. The fries were so good that I didn’t want to use ketchup! Also, probably the best biscuit I’ve ever had in any restaurant, crusty exterior with soft pillowy center. I’m so glad I tried it. I’ll definitely be back.

Greeted once I came in. The food was hot. If you want your fries crispy tell them, they served more on the “limp” side. White meat was hot, but I think they get it up again once you order it. Biscuit was good, not too dry. Definitely would come again if they can get their sanitation score up from 92. Best thing: flavor of chicken skin. Worst thing: sanitation score.

Jay’s Chicken Shack? More like Jay’s Chicken Tragedy. That chicken smelled funky the second I got it looked like it had been on a road trip before it hit the fryer. Salty enough to raise my blood pressure just by looking at it, and overcooked so bad it could’ve doubled as a hockey puck. Whoever cooked that bird definitely wasn’t showing it any love. Never again.

Jay’s Chicken Shack provided my wife and I with a delightful brunch! We both had chicken biscuits and home fries. The service was outstanding as was the food. They have something for everyone from biscuits and fried chicken to bbq plates and hand scooped ice cream. They’ve got their own recipes and offer an exceptional value. We will be back with the entire family soon!
