The anchovy appetizer was a great surprise and full of flavor. The drinks were another highlight. The espresso frozen cocktail and the peppermint drink were both big hits at the table.
The food was more uneven. The French fries were excellent and seasoned perfectly. The grilled shrimp and shrimp cocktail were well received. The fish and chips, however, had very soft breading and not much seasoning, and the lobster mac and cheese was milder than expected. I devoured both the fries and sweet tea, which were great.
Cheeky’s has a great vibe, wonderful drinks, and standout service. The seafood dishes would benefit from more seasoning and a firmer fry, and even having salt and pepper on each table might help. Overall a solid 3 out of 5 with room to grow.
Not often you find a frozen gin & tonic and a salt & vinegar martini. Top notch.
We went for happy hour, which is INCREDIBLE, by the way. The oyster specials are a great deal and the frozen margs are too. But don’t stop there. We also got the crudo, shrimp and fish dip as part of a platter. The quality of everything is what sets them apart. All fresh herbs and high quality ingredients makes a meal and Cheeky’s isn’t cutting corners.
After happy hour, and a few margs; I settled on the lobster roll which is the BEST I’ve had outside of Maine. The warm and soft bread with all of that butter.. I’m drooling now.
The only thing missing was a whoopie pie! I seriously cannot wait to go back!
I had the Sicilian crudo with toast points on the side. It was good, but not great. Another friend ordered the garlic butter shrimp and felt the same — solid, but not the best she’s had. My friends enjoyed their margaritas.
Service was a little uneven. My glass of wine was forgotten until I asked a second time, and not all of our meals came out together, which was a bit odd for a relaxed lunch setting.
That said, we had a nice time and I’d come back — especially for those oysters.
Now for the downside — the food portions and pricing. For what they charge, we expected hearty plates, but we were disappointed. I paid $17 for a Greek salad that was barely the size of my hand. Drinks were served in cups no bigger than 10 oz, which meant constant refills, and at $4.50 for a soda, you can bet I asked for more than one.
One friend ordered the $38 lobster mac and cheese — it came in a bowl no larger than a cereal bowl. Another had the $38 lobster roll, which looked more like a slider.
For six people, our bill topped $380. While the food itself was tasty, the portions and value were far from justifiable. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant unless you’re not very hungry and don’t mind paying premium prices for minimal portions.
I got the lobster roll and my boyfriend got the grilled shrimp Po Boy. We got the fish dip as an appetizer. If you have room definitely get a slice of the homemade key lime pie for dessert. Soooo good.
Definitely will be back! Highly recommend!
